Forged, Self-Latching Jaw

Self-Latching Jaw

The one-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel hitch provides absolute security with its wraparound design. Increased jaw-to-king-pin contact results in not only a stronger connection, but less noisy rattling and stiff chucking as well.

The jaw is also always ready to receive, so you don't need to use the handle to open it before backing up toward your trailer. As long as the bail pin is removed from the latching handle, the jaw will accept the king pin as it enters the hitch.

Finally, the jaw is self-latching, so it will automatically secure your trailer's king pin when it moves into the jaw.

Quiet, Comfortable Ride

Pivot Bushings

In addition to the tight jaw tolerance, a close connection between the head and the pivot bushings further reduces rattle and movement. And because the pivot bushings are independent from the head, they can be tightened to ensure a strong connection over time.

King Pin Indicator Prevents High Pinning

King Pin Indicator

This M5 hitch features a built-in king pin indicator to ensure proper hookup. This indicator is located on the back of the head along with a V-shaped notch that are both visible from the cab of your truck. The V-notch is lined up with the jaw at the front of the hitch, and can be used as a guiding point to line the king pin up with the jaw as you back up your truck. The jaw also has an internal plate that keeps the king pin from entering if it is too high to enter safely. As a result, the king pin indicator will only change from red to green if the king pin is fully engaged in the jaw.

Easy-to-Use Latching Handle

Lever and Hitch

This hitch's handle is designed for smooth motion and effortless operation. It requires only 2 fingers to use and won't bind up as you pull. In addition, the handle is long, so it's easy to access from outside of your truck bed. And the ergonomic grip makes it comfortable to hold and pull from different angles.

Tried to install this on a 2001 Chevy Silverado 3500, dual rear wheel, long bed, 4x4, diesel engine truck. The clamp style mounting simply does not work. The ONLY way I can see this working is by drilling added holes in the frame of the truck at the front end of the side plates. This is because of a bend in the frame at the clamp location. Also at this location the frame is boxed in and any bolt holes will be hidden. Bolts would have to fished in with bolt wires.

I see that you are stuck on some parts of this installation. I have gotten in contact with one of our technicians and they had mentioned that you should be able to find what you need in the instructions on page 5. https:www.reeseprod.comproduct-assetsinstallN30926.pdf

I am very pleased with my purchase of the Reese M5, a major improvement over my old receiver. Great service from etrailer as well.

by:

Just received yesterday, will be having it installed on Monday and will be pulling my new camper home next Saturday. Will update afterwards with pics

Still works good, but every once in a while it dosent want to latch around the kingpin.

by:

Great product, shipped in really good time, etrailer was excellent in communication, only small problem was package was damaged in transit, and my item had some pretty bad scratches on it. But when I notified etrailer of this they gave me a choice of shipping it back in exchange for a new one or giving me a nice credit back if I could live with the scratches. I choose the latter and I thought it was great that they gave me the choice.

by:

I had to return this hitch as it was unusable due to manufacturing defects. etrailer honored the return and refunded me completely.

by:

I love it. It’s very easy for me to setup. The only issue i had was rge breakout away cable snapped in have and i was not able to find a replacement. I had a friend who was able to make me another one.

by:

Always polite and know exactly what you need for your application. Tim was a pleasure to work with.

by:

Great quality, worked perfect and easy to use. I was so happy with it that I transferred it to my new vehicle. I would recommend this to a friend.

by:

Great hitch. Easy to use and pulls my 40ft rig like a champion!

by:

The order before I received this one, I do not understand why you would ship two products that would not work together although I ordered them wrong, with out letting me know before it was shipped. I didn't know that my order was wrong until I went to install it in my truck. It cost me time and money.

There where parts missing.

I see our customer service team is working on sending you the missing parts, but I am sorry you are having to go through all this when it should have all been delivered together. Thanks for giving us the chance to make it right.

by:

This went well also. Only thing that could have been better is the grease (lube) information. To this day, I still don't know what parts to lubricate or where or with what.

Etrailer Expert

1/17/2023

Well that would be some good information to know! I am getting that added to our site for future reference. You will need to use engine oil to lubricate pivot points of moving parts within the hitch.

by:

Easy install, visual confirmation pin is locked into 5th Wheel, and no more chucking when pulling trailer.

by:

Loved the product, hated the installation instructions

by:

I've only just got it installed and as of yet have not tested it under load. Hope to pick-up and tow my RV back home this weekend. I will update My review when I return.

by:

Got expert advice from David B Everything arrived and put on today. Worked beautifully

by:

2 of the 3 boxes arived the day before it was scheduled to arrive. The 3rd box arrived the next day as scheduled. The qr code on the head did not work, it took me to a 404 error page on the Reese site.

  • Rail Kit Needed for Installing Reese M5 in Bed of 2019 Ram 3500
To install the Reese M5 fifth wheel hitch part # RP30928 in the bed of your 2019 Ram 3500 all you need is a custom install rail kit part # RP56010-53 which will install quickly and not require frame drilling. I attached an install video for the rail kit on a similar Ram for you to check out as well.

  • Troubleshooting Fifth Wheel Trailer Chucking
What you described sounds like chucking. Chucking is the sound you are describing that comes from the moving parts of the hitch. When you start and stop the play moves back and forth and causes the sound you are hearing. The only real solutions would be to upgrade to a hitch that is cushioned and has a jaw system that provides better king pin contact to reduce movement like the Reese M5 part # RP30928. Or you can go with a cushioned pin box like a Fifth Airborne. But you would first...

This will allow you to have a clean bed when not in use and easily install this hitch that is capable of pulling your fifth wheel trailer. • Is Reese M5 Available for 2020 Chevy Silverado 2500
There are a few reasons why you are having problems finding the Reese M5 hitch as a fit for your 2020 Chevy Silverado 2500. The first is that it looks like you input that you have a 6-3/4' bed with the OEM Prep Package. While that is an excellent option, Reese hasn't released a sliding M5 hitch as of yet (March 2020). We do have the 20K M5 # RP30928 that fits standard base rails but you'll need the adapter # DM6333 to make it compatible and we only really recommend stationary hitches...

This set of rails is industry standard which means it will work with your Reese M5 item # RP30928 and most 5th wheel hitches on the market. • Reese Fifth Wheel Hitch When Double Jaw Wrapped Around King Pin What is the Maximum Allowable Gap
I have confirmed with my contacts at Reese and the double jaws that secure the kingpin in-place on the Pro-Series PS30119 are elliptical in shape. Due to this elliptical shape the jaws will not completely close around the pin when hooked up to the trailer and a small gap is common. A gap of approximately 1/8 of an inch is well within in tolerance limits. Unfortunately my contact could not supply any additional gap measurements that indicate if the hitch was out of tolerance. Instead, I recommend Reese M5 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Single Jaw - 20,000 lbs, # RP30928, Adapter Rails # RP30154, and Wedge # RP44FR. This setup will allow your 2020 Ram 2500 with prep package to be compatible with the Reese Sidewinder # RP34FR you were looking at. You linked to the Reese Sidewinder 5th Wheel King Pin, # RP34FR. The Curt Q20 Fifth Wheel Hitch, while an excellent fifth wheel trailer hitch with a locking jaw and 3 point indicator system, does not have a wedge available. We do not recommend using a sidewinder with a Q20 hitch because it is cushioned and the Sidewinder wedge wears out the rubber bushing in the hitch head. If your truck has an 8 foot bed, you could change out the sidewinder and keep the Curt Q5. If your truck bed is 6 foot or shorter, a sidewinder is a necessity, so in that case,...

I have a possible solution, but we don't carry Pull Rite hitches. I can't imagine you would be able to tow a fifth wheel trailer with the Du Ha truck bed storage box without pin box or hitch interference unless you went with a Sidewinder pin box replacement as that moves the pivot point up higher. For your 2011 Chevy Silverado 1500 with 6-1/2 foot bed, I recommend a custom fit 5th wheel trailer hitch installation kit, # RP50064-58. The custom kits take about half the time to install over the universal kit because there is less drilling involved and the underbed brackets are designed to fit the frame rails on your truck. Not only does this have an air ride feature to reduce the chucking you are experience but also it is a Sidewinder which means that you no longer would have to use a slider hitch. You correct, you should use a fixed hitch when towing the fifth wheel trailer that has a Reese Revolution Pin box with the 2020 Ford F-150 short bed. The Reese Sidewinder is the aftermarket version of the Reese Revolution pin box and they are both designed to move the pivot point of the trailer setup back 22" for cab clearance in a short bed. In general a sliding hitch is needed when towing a fifth wheel trailer with a truck that has a bed shorter than 8 feet. There are scenarios where a slider hitch isn't needed though like if the trailer happens to have a tapered nose. I looked up your 2014 Keystone Sprinter 314 FWRLS and the nose of it is tapered the pin box is extended and since your short bed truck is a bit longer at 6.5 foot (a lot are shorter than that) I'd think you'd most likely not need a slider. The problem with the Ram Box is that is that it puts the rails of the bed too close together and it causes interference with the pin box of the trailer around corners. As far as the angle you would have the same limitations using a Sidewinder as you would with any pin box.
