Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver For 2008 Ford Explorer

Question:

I dont want a scab on hitch, it makes my connection point too low. Im looking for an oem replacement. I have a 2008 ford explorer, and it comes with a 1inch hitch. I want to remove that and replace it with a 2. Do fabricate oem replacement hitches, or just add ons?

We do not fabricate trailer hitch receivers. We don't have any replacement options for your OEM hitch, but we do have add on hitches that fit directly underneath the OEM hitch to give you the 2 inch receiver. The Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 75437 and the Curt # 13112 will both fit tightly underneath that OEM hitch and be in line with the bumper.

If clearance is an issue, you can use an adjustable ball mount to give you the rise you need to tow level with your OEM hitch. For this I recommend the B&W Tow & Stow 2-Ball Mount - 2" Hitch - 5" Drop, 5-1/2" Rise - 10K - Black # BWTS10037B. This will give you a 2 inch or 2-5/16 inch hitch ball option. When not in use it also has a nice stowable feature. I recommend using a locking hitch pin like # e98882 for this application.

When using a bike rack, cargo carrier, or other accessory, you can use a model with a rise in the shank to gain the extra ground clearance.
