Recommended Pop-Up Camper Trailer Towing System for 2007 Ford Explorer
Question:
Thank you so much for your recommendations. Just a couple of additional questions: (1) What is the difference (if any) between the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver that you referenced and the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer - Class III - 2" - Hitch Receiver (Item #75437)? (2) If I were to decide to use a Tekonsha Prodigy brake controller as I have used in the past on our E150 Ford van, what wiring package/harness would I need for our 2007 Ford Explorer already equipped with the 4-flat wiring harness?

Helpful Expert Reply:
The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 13112 will fit right under your 1-1/4 inch receiver as you stated. Your vehicle has a towing capacity of 3,500 lbs, so you will be able to tow you the Rockwood Pop-up you referenced. The rear differential is the 3.55.
Most will have the 4 flat wiring harness already, so then you will use the # ETBC7L to give you the adapter from the 4-way to the 7-way with power and circuit breaker. Then you can use the Curt Echo # C51180 which doesn't require any wiring under your dash which will make installation easier and the ability to move the brake controller to another vehicle easily.
I've attached some videos to assist.
