Trailer Hitch Recommendations for 2016 Acura RDX
Question:
I have a 2016 Acura RDX This support strap would go over the spoiler at the top of the hatch back. This would put a lot of pressure on a plastic spoiler. Have you heard of any problems with this? Cracking the spoiler? Or do you have a different hitch then the 13130 that would not need a support strap for a bike rack?

Expert Reply:
Because the support strap you speak of would loop over the spoiler, there is a possibility that the weight applied to the strap could break the spoiler. Curt makes a great hitch, but I can't recommend them for every application because some vehicles aren't suited to using the strap (especially vehicles like your RDX that have the spoiler atop the hatch lid).
I'd recommend the Draw-Tite Class III hitch, part # 75784. Unlike the Curt hitch, Draw-Tite doesn't have a warranty stipulation that states the strap needs to be used.
If you'll be using the hitch for towing purposes, you'll also need the following items to complete your towing system:
Trailer wiring harness, part # 118569
Ball mount, part # 2753
Trailer ball, part # 19260 for a 1-7/8 or # 63845 for a 2 inch ball
If you click the provided link, you can see a video showing the hitch I recommended being installed on a 2015 RDX. The procedure shown in the video will be the same for your 2016 model.
