Recommended Solution For Carrying Bikes Between RV and Flat Towed Vehicle

Question:

I will be using Blue Ox Avail BX 7420 tow bar and BX 2801baseplate to tow Fiat 500 Pop behind a 2007 Fleetwood Expedition. I will need a receiver, size tbd . Is there a recommended 2 or 3 position bike rack that can mount on the receiver? Maybe a Hollywood Racks HR135 and a Blue Ox or Road Master adapter high/low Rise/Drop tbd Thanks

The bike rack you mentioned, the Curt # C18013 Clamp-On bike rack is meant to be used on a ball mount only, not on the shank of a high/low adapter. The rack hasn't been tested for that usage, so I cannot recommend it.

In your situation, you'd be best off using a dual hitch receiver, like part # D-192. If you need a rise/drop, Roadmaster offers a 4 inch rise drop, part # RM-077-4 or a 2 inch rise/drop, part # RM-077-2. In the top receiver, you can use a bike rack designed to fit in a hitch receiver like the Swagman Trailhead, which is available in a 2 bike version as part # S63360 or a 3 bike version as part # S63365.

Before installing a receiver hitch on the rear of your Fleetwood Expedition, I'd contact the RV manufacturer to find out if they recommend installing a hitch. If you get the green light from them, the hitch you'll need will depend on the outside to outside dimension between the frame members of your RV. If this distance is between 18-51 inches, I'd recommend the Curt Hitch # C13702. Curt will require a support strap # 18050 for any accessories like bike racks. For an outside to outside frame distance from 47-77 inches, use the Ultra-Fab # UF35-946403.
