Selecting Replacement Electric Drum Brakes for 2007 H&H Trailer
Question:
I have a 2007 HandH cargo trailer. According to the spec sheet it has 2 5,000# axles. It has electric brakes on both axles. I dont see an option for 5K axles listed on your site. Can you advise me? The trailer has torsion axles, 6 bolt wheels, and ST225/75R-15 load range D tires. I am looking for the complete brake kit backing plate, shoes, magnet, etc Thanks.

We offer complete electric drum brake assemblies in a range of axle weight ratings but you are correct that we do not list electric drum brakes for 5K axles. Sometimes a trailer maker may de-rate the axle they use. They may use an OEM axle rated for more than their specified weight, in other words include a 6K axle but rate it as being 5K. Your best bet is to get close to the axles and check their safety sticker/plate for their actual rating.
The other axle weight rating that is just below 5K is 4400-lbs. Brakes for this axle rating measure 10-inches in diameter and 2-1/4-inches wide. On the other hand, brakes for a 6K axle are all the 12 x 2-inch size, such as the etrailer.com self adusting # AKEBRK-7L-SA (left) and # AKEBRK-7R-SA (right). You can match the dimensions of your brakes and the mounting bolt pattern on your brake flanges to help you select appropriate brakes. As long as you use brakes rated for the same as or more than your axle capacity you will be fine. Be sure to select both left- and right-hand brakes for each axle.
