Recommended Hitch Solution for Carrying Bicycle on Rear of RV with C-Channel Bumper
Question:
I am looking for a hitch adapter for an RV with a C-channel bumper to attach a bike rack. The bumper is welded to the frame. I was looking at the Code: E-3S and wondering if instead of drilling and bolting if I could use two U-Bolts to attach it to the bumper? Or do you have any other suggestions? I will be carrying one bike on the rack. Thank you for your assistance.

The Curt # E-3S hitch you mentioned is recommended for use on a truck step bumper, as shown in the provided diagram. A bolt-on hitch like the Ultra-Fab # UF35-946401 would be a better choice. This hitch is designed to fit bumpers that are up to 4-1/2 by 4 inches. The bolt on receiver has a 200 lb capacity, but you'll need to check with the RV manufacturer to determine the capacity of the bumper. You'll need to abide by whichever capacity is lowest.
I'd also recommend using a bike rack that's rated for use at the rear of an RV. If you don't have a rack yet, I'd recommend the Swagman Dispatch 2 Bike Platform Rack # S44FR. The rack is durable and holds bikes up to 45 lbs each. It is rated for vehicles, 5th wheels, travel trailers, motorhomes and flat-towed vehicles, so it is able to do what many others are not rated to do. I've attached a video review to assist.
