    V-Bar Icebreakers

    V-Bar Icebreakers

These chains are outstanding in serious winter weather conditions because the V-bar studs can bust through intense ice and packed snow. So, you'll be able to get to work and back home again even in the toughest weather. You can also use them if you ever go off-roading and end up in a mud-digging situation. These chains are going to help give your vehicle purchase to pull out and keep moving.

    Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer. You'll also need to know how much clearance is in your wheel well, which you can determine by measuring from your tire tread to the sidewall of the wheel well.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

    Installing Tire Chains

    Installing these chains is simple.

Lay chains on the ground to get all the tangles out

    1. Lay out the chains on the ground to make sure there are no twists or kinks.

    Drape chains over tire.

    2. Drape the chain over the tire, ensuring that the V-bar studs face away from the tire.

    Make connections

    3. On the back of the tire, pull the chain tight and hook the ends together. Repeat this on the front of the tire.

    Attach optional tensioners

    4. Drive forward 2-3 vehicle lengths and recheck the chain tension. Tighten the chain as needed by moving the hook to the next link.

    Attach optional tensioners

If needed, rubber adjusters (sold separately) can be used to help give you a tight fit. Make sure the hooks on the adjusters face away from your tire so your wheels don't get scratched.

    Quick Tips:

    • Lengthen the life of snow chains by drying them after each use before you store them.
    • Check out our installation kit with safety lights and a kneeling pad (PO34FRK) to make things a little easier when you're installing chains out in the snow.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire.

    Tire size on sidewall

    185/60-15

    1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
    2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
    3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

I am impressed with the Titan Snow Tire Chains I purchased recently. They appear to be well made and sturdy. They fit my tires and were easy to install. The V-Bar links allow me to drive into the woods with the confidence that I will be able to return home safely.

Its been almost two years, and I still like the chains. Ive driven into the snowy woods a few times this winter and got home with no problem.

I haven’t had to use them yet. I went through them and checked them out and I think they are really good

    2006 Jeep Wrangler

Well made, however the rear wheel clearance at the front inner side is questionable. Very close, maybe get a finger between chain and plastic inner fender. But I bought them for emergency use if need when plowing my driveway, and if kept tight may not cause a problem. Will have to check constantly and keep loose ends tied fast to rest of chains. Clearance might not be a problem with lifted vehicles. Am using on a 2006 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon with oem tire size (but with Bridgestone Dueler AT ).

Chain fit well for this application. A bit disappointed it took 15 days for them to arrive.

I had high hopes for my purchase since there was great reviews. Unfortunately that was not my experience. First issue, only part of order showed up when delivered. Reached out to etrailer to investigate. A few days later they shipped out the other set of chains I ordered. That issue was resolved. Second issue, I knew I would need to trim back the extra links on my chains, I was shocked as to how much I needed to cut off. It included a section of the ladder chain. Which ultimately wasn’t really an issue, I just think it should be clear this is a cut to fit tire chain, not a trim. I double checked the website, the canvas bag, and my tires, this was an appropriate set for those tires. Ultimately I’m very satisfied with the product. Not satisfied with seller/delivery.

I bought a pair of twist link (TC3235) for my front tires and V-Bars (TC3835) for my rear tires, so writing a combined review. The V-Bars have more traction but my front end doesn't have as much clearance so I opted for the twist links in the front.  I've now used these offroad 4 times, and once briefly onroad during a major ice storm that left all of our roads with skating rink type ice.
First - both chains fit 37" x 12.5 R18 tires perfectly.  This is despite the fitment not being listed on etrailer.com and the etrailer CS rep telling me they wouldn't fit.  The Titan catalogue / website does list 37x12.5R18.
Second - two pair of chains *just* fit in a milwaukee packout "Compact Tool Box" (model No: 48-22-8422).  There isn't a wasted inch of space.  After using them, I dry them in my garage, then douse them in WD-40 before putting them back in the packout.  These chains are made from an alloy that prioritizes strength over corrosion resistance, so surface rust appears pretty quickly on them.  Be warned that lifting all four chains together is heavy.
Third - They give amazing offroad traction.  The only way you're getting stuck is by getting high-centered.  You will not run out of traction if you have weight on your tires.  However, it is easy to get high centered when using these in the snow if you aren't careful.  Don't spin your tires, or your axles and frame rails will be holding the vehicle while your wheels hang in the air.
Fourth - I would only recommend using these onroad in very limited circumstances. During an ice storm I had to get a neighbor to the hospital. We live on an extremely steep hill and the roads had 1" of clear ice on them.  With the chains it was like the ice wasn't there.  But the whole truck vibrated a lot.  And it probably prematurely wore the chains.  If I drove faster than ~15-20 mph it really rattled the truck.  (offroad in the snow I'll drive 40+ mph no problem with these.  but driving on hard surfaces causes a lot of vibration).

The item went out of stock after I ordered it. However, customer service was very quick to source it and shipped it out very quickly. The level of attention by their whole team was excellent. I was receiving followup emails letting me know of the status of the order all the way up to even after shipment delivery.

Quick and easy. One of my chain tensioner's broke and they had new ind out to me asap. I’ve always had a good experience with these folks.

    by:

These are first rate quality HD tire chains. They're a good fit on my tires. As suggested, I practiced putting them on for first time in dry weather. From watching video instructions, I was able to attach and adjust chains w/out issue. I tightened them with three 15 " rubber bungees. Haven't had to use them yet.

    by:

Great affordable product for my truck. Buying was easy, delivery was quick and the chains worked well.

    by:

Received it 2 days back and it broke on its very first use within 10 mins of driving. Not sure if this is a design defect or poor quality of material. I tried following instructions very closely so doubt if anything was wrong in the way it was mounted. There was ample clearance in wheel well and it seems the chain just could not take stress.

    by:

The chains work as expected. Got me out of the mud twice (2wd pickup). Don't spin and dig holes before applying or you won't be able to stretch the chain around the sunken in tire. I needed to jack it up once to get the chains on then they worked like a charm. I have not used in snow or on road.

    • Titan V-Bar Snow Tire Chains for 245/75-16 Tires
Although they do offer a fit, the Titan # TC2828 chain you'd looked at won't fit a 245/75-16 tire. I'd recommend either the Titan Snow Tire Chains with V-bar links, part # TC2821 or the same chain with cam tighteners, part # TC2821CAM. The V-bar chains are excellent for deep snow or ice. The V-bars do a great job of biting into slick surfaces for superior traction. Even if you go with the model that features the cam tighteners, it's still a good idea to use a set of tensioners like # TCMA2...

    • Do Snow Tire Chains For 245/75-16 Tires Have Specific Length
Snow tire chains for your vehicle with size 245/75-16 tires are going to have different lengths, it just depends on the tire chain. The reason for that is there are so many different chains, and they are designed to fit numerous different sizes of tire, depending on the chain. The best way to choose the tire chain is to find one that fits your tire as well as your needs. For example, if you wanted something that was easy to install, used on normal snow or ice and was Class S compatible...

The Titan Chain Multi-Arm Rubber Tire Chain Adjuster # TCMA2 that you referenced has been well reviewed by our customers and there is not an inherent problem that we are aware of. According to Titan Chain, the # TC2221CAM are not designed for off-road use due to the composition of the steel used to manufacture the chain links. For on and off road use, the Titan # TC2221 twist link chains would be a better choice. For better snow and ice traction for on or off road, the V-bar links used on # TC2821 will really bite into the ice and provide great traction. Also recommended are adjusters like # TCOA2 which will keep the chains tightly in place on the tire. The chains...
