Bought this rack to install on our Coleman Taos. Install was easy, rack feels very solid. We can fit four bikes on it or 2 bikes and our canoe. Took our first trip with it, had the kids bikes and canoe on the rack, carried them without any problems

Peter I if youre out there,I also have a Taos and bought this rack. The Taos has that large radius on the edges that keeps the screws for the feet of the rack back in quite a ways from the edge, like 1.5. Did you find that you could screw those feet down and catch solid material? In that case the screws probably poke through on the inside, right? I guess it would also be possible to go all the way through and use the back up plates and long bolts that they send for use on truck covers, but I wanted to do some research before drilling holes. Thanks,Eddie

Peter I.

10/3/2013

Eddie, I was able to drill through the L-channel that runs along the interior of the camper where the ceiling meets the wall for the screws to bite into. I used a stud finder to make sure I was over the channel.

Thanks for the update. Great info! Should be useful for other pop-ups as well.

Peter, what kind of bike racks did you use? The cross bars look too large for the clamps on my Yakima racks they are meant for 1 diameter tube. Nice Jeep, BTW.

I needed to add a rack system for my utility trailer. I selected this Swagman rack based on the good etrailer description and specs, as well as reviews. They delivered quickly and were exactly as I had hoped.

Super easy to install. I created different hole placements so I can quickly move the racks for different loads, and the bars can easily be removed if I need to load my ATV (I used wing nuts with lock washers for but also have regular nuts w/ lock washers). My trailer is only 5' wide (each bar is 2 pieces that slide/insert together making them 7' wide) so I cut the ends off and reinserted the rubber ends to make the bars 5 1/2' wide. Need a good metal saw or hacksaw - bars are definately not flimsy metal.

I'm not mechanically inclined so I got help to have the roof rack attached. He even added the additional bars so I could strap my bags to them. It worked perfectly! I drove from LA, CA to Travis (Bakersfield), CA and back with no problems.

Hi, I have installed my Swagman Roamer Lt Camper Shell Roof Rack on my Cargo Trailer. Good quality product. Thank you.

by:

I USE IT FOR TWO KAYAKS. HAD TO SLIGHTLY MODIFY IT WITH TIE DOWN POINTS FOR STRAPS, AND POOL NOODLES FOR CUSIONS. NO BIG DEAL. AFTER A YEAR OUTSIDE, MOSTLY UNDER A TARP WHEN NOT IN USE, THE FINISH IS STILL DECENT. BECAREFUL WHEN TRAVELING AT HIGHER SPEEDS, WITH WIND SHEAR, ETC...THINGS CAN GET WACKY, OR RIP IT OFF THE CAMPER.

by:

Great service, even better price. Have some friends who paid $500 for the equivalent racks for their similar camper. Had to get creative on the installation because of the way the pop-up top opens but think I have mine more securely fastened than how my friend's dealer did theirs.

by:

For 150lb capacity, the swagman roamer Lt feels heavy duty and installs solid. I purchased this aftermarket roof rack after getting no help from my camper manufacturer.

by:

Excellent product. Very sturdy, easy to mount, and was perfect for hauling our kayaks.

by:

Install was straight forward on our 2010 Coleman pop up camper. Had to drill 8 holes, use plates inside and seal around the holes, we used silicon. Already had 3 rainstorms and no leaking
Tested 1 bike and there was no flexing or bending of the roof so far.
Square bar is kinda big so just make sure you rack mounts will work, had to get some longer bolts for mine

by:

I searched everywhere on line for some roof bars for my flat top cargo box trailer. E-trailers many detailed posted answers to customer questions led me to getting their “Swagman” pop-up trailer roof bars. They worked great for the first of many trips hauling a 16’ Ocean Kayak on top of my 5’ x 10’ Carry on Box Trailer. Many Thanks

Chevrolet Avalanche

Well built, good design and looks very nice.. Worked perfectly for securing them to the hard toneau cover on my avalanche so I could mount my cargo carrier to them.. Thanks

by:

This was a great addition to my camper shell. Easy install and worked like a charm for my surfboards & tent I kept on the side.

by:

Product fit nicely on our popup. Installing took about two hours. Used plenty of silicone at attachment points with no leaks.

by:

We installed this rack on our truck’s tonneau cover. We followed the directions and took our time since neither my husband or I are very adept at this kind of project. We did have to purchase longer bolts to accommodate the tonneau’s thickness. We also had to use a weather proof glue for the end caps because we reduced the rack width. It was an easy fix. The rack has worked well for our cargo container on camping trips, and it has held up very well. We saved a lot of money installing this ourselves.

The rack has held up very well holding our cargo container. We’ve used it numerous times for camping and hauling lumber for home improvement projects. The rack is just as good as when it was installed. I’m glad we purchased it.

by:

Mounted three roof rack bars on our pop-up camper at the beginning of last summer (spaced for bikes and boats). We have carried both bikes and a canoe without any problems. The bars were relatively easy to mount, and are very solid. The only minor critique is that the bar comes in two sections, and the inside area where they come together gets wet when it rains and drips a bit of rusty water onto the camper afterward.

Overall we are happy with the roof rack and would purchase again.

Still as good as the day they were installed, no problems!

Ford Edge

The bars/towers themselves are of good quality. They are very stout and sturdy. The powder coating seems to be of good quality. My only issue was the the instructions. I mounted the crossbars to a Fleetwood Cobalt. The curve on the outer edge of the roof is so extreme that the towers need to be placed so far out that they actually hang over the side of the roof. The directions state they be no more than a 1/2" inboard of the edge of the roof. In my opinion it's closer to 1/4". The first whole I drilled there was nothing under the skin of the trailer but air. I made it work, but if I ever do it over again I will use the long bolts that go all the way through the trailer roof and are secured on the underside with plates.

I'm happy with this purchase and it's a great product, just know the fit and placement of the towers will need to be as far to the outer edge as you can get.

Looks as good as the day I bought it. The crossbars are two piece and do sag slightly in the middle. Not enough to matter though and Im still happy with the product.

by:

This rack has worked well for hauling bicycles on my Viking Epic camper. I mounted directly into the wood along the sides of the trailer by using a stud finder to locate the wood framing of the camper. I made sure I used an RV sealant in the bolt holes anchoring the rack to the roof and on every surface around them. I placed sealant on the bottom of the mounting bracket before putting it on the roof as well as on the surfaces of both the mount and the bracket where they make contact. Then I sealed the groove between the bracket and the mount once it was bolted into place. I have had zero leaks due to the roof rack by doing this. Installation did not take very long to do and was pretty simple. When mounting, make sure you pay attention to any rooftop equipment and place your rack accordingly. I did a dry fit of everything and made adjustments based on where my fan vent was located. I added my bike racks that had been adjusted for the smallest bike I would carry when I did my dry fit. Taking time to do a dry fit ensured I had the best fit for my camper and my needs.

by:

Rack was straightforward to install. Per other reviewers, make sure you're very near the edge when you drill the pilot holes. This will ensure that you catch the actual narrow wooden frame for the lag screws to hold properly. Cross bars are two-piece and will sag slightly under load. This is not unexpected given the long length to span the full width of the trailer. The plus to this is that they are lighter in weight and also appear to be well constructed.

Otherwise, product works as expected. Just returned from a camping trip with my son where we hauled my 12' Porta-Bote at highway speeds up to 75 mph and up over Cameron pass to a reservoir on the other side. The rack performed beautifully with no sign of weakening or wear from the journey. Would purchase again.

After a years use, rack 8s holding up very well with no visible signs of wear. Would definitely purchase again.

I just finished attaching the mount to the camper shell on my truck. I shopped for a while and had difficulty finding a rack that didn't attach to either pre-existing rails or a rain channel. I plan to carry 2 kayaks on the roof and this worked perfectly. The build quality was solid, the installation straightfoward. I couldn't be more pleased. The racks arrived promptly as promised, in time for our camping trip.

Its been a great rack, and worked perfectly. Glad to have given a good review.

by:

I love this rack. In the past we weould carry our bikes on a rack that sat between our vehicle and our camper. It was impossible to get anything out of the back of the SUV/truck or the camper storage area while traveling.

Now our bikes sit on top of the camper, very secure, and out of the way for long trips to get to our camping location.

It is also large enough to carry our kayaks as well as the bikes!

Mel J.

10/24/2020

After a year I am still quite happy that I made this purchase. It takes me just a few minutes to secure the bikes on top of our camper. The bikes are out of the way and I have no worries about them i.e, will they come loose. It makes taking our bikes on all of our campint trips so easy and enjoyable. I wish I had made this purchase years earlier.

by:

Great price and has worked exactly as advertised. I put this on a pop-up trailer to mount 4 bikes on. Works great but I am definitely pushing the upper end of the rack weight limit with the bike racks + bikes on it. Definitely secure & bikes are stable. Slightly "jiggly" on a washboarded gravel or dirt road but I usually just slow down.

Patrick

2/22/2021

Works great! Installed this on a 1996 Dutchman pop up. Carried 4 mountain bikes on this rack multiple times and worked great. Easy to mount. Quality product. Sturdy.

by:

Carries a box and a kayak toward the ends of rails no problem. Would be concerned with the amount of deflection if that weight was all in the center. Well worth the price and ease of installation.

Thomas F.

2/12/2018

No problems. Keep the load as close to the support bracketts as possible to minimize deflection.

by:

Very well built. All components were precision made and fit perfect. The rack handles both of our kayaks nicely.

The roof rack fit well on my 2016 Forest River 2318g. We have used it many times to haul our kayak and paddle boards. Have not used it for bikes but it would work effectively if I purchased the necessary bike mounts. All in all I have been very pleased with the roof rack for hour pop up.

  • Can Rooftop Tent be Installed on Swagman Roamer LT Roof Rack
The 150 lb load limit is the dynamic rating for the Swagman Roamer LT Roof Rack # S80510. For example, both the Yakima SkyRise HD # Y07436 and the Thule Tepui Ruggedized Kukenam # TH8001KXL05 have a requirement that the roof rack be rated for 165 lbs so the 150 lb rating wouldn't suffice for these.
