Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plug on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Toyota Highlander

Just a heads up for Toyota Highlander owners. My Highlander had the towing package from the factory but I still needed the converter and wiring harness combo etrailer package.

Excellent service. Quick arrival of products. Installed after watching their videos and one was very helpful since I was having a problem and the video showed me the correct way . Highly recommend the products and video search and the instruction.

Item was as described and easy to install, thanks to the detailed instructions- written and video.

After balking at the cost to have an auto-shop add a trailer to our Toyota Highlander, we found etrailer.com and decided to take a chance. The "how to" videos factored considerably in our decision to buy ... they made it look so easy! And surprise! It really -WAS- that easy. We used standard block-type ramps (the kind you can buy for $40 ) to get the SUV up off the ground high enough to get underneath to do the work. Everything came off as easy as it was showed in the videos. Other than the fact this bar is a heavy so we had our teen daughter help hold it steady while we bolted it into place (i.e., get help for when you go to lift it), it went super smooth. Thanks for saving us $280 over the cost the car dealer quoted us! P.S. - be sure to watch the linked videos so you get the right trailer lighting attachment and ball hitch for your new hitch.

We are very happy with our trailer hitch, and all the accoutrements that we purchased with it. Your videos were enormously helpful, the hitch went on easily with a bit of help from our teenage daughter to lift it up into place, and we recommend your business to friends when they express an interest in getting a camper.

This wiring harness was a huge time-saver over wiring things manually like we did for our last trailer hitch a long-long-long time ago! If you're not sure what to buy, watch the videos they have to make sure you get the correct one for your needs. We saved a HUGE amount of money over what the auto dealer quoted us for the exact same thing, and as a bonus, the how-to videos made it really easy to attach it ourselves. Yes, it really -is- that easy.

Joanne got things going in a very timely manner and I got my purchase 3 days early.

2012 highlander had factory tow package. This harness mounted in fine to the factory plug in the back but there was no power at the connector. After some research I found that I still needed to go to the dealer and purchase a $100 towing converter that plugs in under the dash on the left side.

It sounds like your 2012 Toyota Highlander didnt come with the factory tow package and that you would have needed part # C56217. It includes the additional wiring component that installs under the dash to complete towing circuit.

Thank you for the great service..

easy install...pretty cut and dry / plug and play

2015 Toyota Highlander

Great ordering and quick delivery. Product was just as described and super easy to install. Just a little disapoited in the wireharness that was available as it does not have a bracket to clamp to the hitch and will need to be replpaced. Make sure to order the correct one.

Perfect fit and the instructional video was excellent!

***READ THIS*** Great product, easy install *BUT* This might help someone else. I called the dealer and found that my 2012 Toyota Highlander has the " V-6 Towing Prep Package" I had assumed that was the factory towing package, I was wrong. Save yourself the trouble and physically look under the dash for the white connector as well, if nothing (no converter) is plugged into it, you will need the other wiring kit with the converter. [one of etrailer.com videos] clearly shows the connector I'm talking about on a 2012 Highlander I have now ordered the correct part. I am still very happy doing business with etrailer.com Thanks!

by:

The product is amazing. I will say that the company that installed the hitch did not hook the lights up correctly and they trailer lights still do not work. It has nothing to do with the product. I am hoping that I will be able to take it back and get it fixed next week.

by:

Was easy to install. The original was broken from someone hitting it. The replacement is not mounted on the outside but left in the storage space until needed.

Still working. I installed it and store in the area under the back mat. I believe thats the best because its not exposed to the weather. Id buy it again if needed as I saved a ton of $$ by doing it myself.

2008 Toyota Highlander

parts arrived ahead of schedule and in good order. Had it installed locally by a professional and am very pleased with the results, thank you! Order included: Draw Tite hitch receiver / tongue kit with 2 drop/raise sizes & 2 ball sizes / wiring, wire tester / for 2008 Highlander.

by:

We couldn't recommend this product highly enough. It was SO much more affordable than having a dealership install theirs. It was very easy to install as well. My husband, who is not overly familiar with cars, installed it with ease by himself.
Thank you etrailer for providing such a great product.

by:

The part came quickly, with great instructions and product description so I was able to install it quickly!

by:

Don't buy from car dealer, this is the same connector for a lot better price, and I didn't have to sport a face diaper to get it. etrailers is the best source out there. I recommend them all the time.

Exactly as ordered , professionally packed and promptly delivered ahead of schedule!

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for a 2015 Toyota Highlander for Bike Rack and Trailer
The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C13394 is an excellent option for a 2015 Toyota Highlander and what I recommend using. It will work great for bike racks or cargo carriers and trailers if need be. The best feature of the trailer hitch is the hidden design which makes for a really smooth install look. It also offers bolt-on installation. Please note, if you will be towing then you'll need a trailer wiring harness and for this I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 118449...

  • Trailer Wiring for 2018 Toyota Highlander
We do have trailer connectors that will plug in and work with your 2018 Toyota Highlander, but the Hopkins Wiring Harness # HM11143384 you referenced does not fit your vehicle. Instead, if your '18 Highlander has the factory tow package with the converter under your dash you need T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness for Factory Tow Package # 56042, which you simply plug into the connection point in your rear cargo area. Should your Highlander NOT have the factory tow package with the converter...

Since you also mentioned you wanted to install lights for your bike rack, the -Magnetic Tow Lights # PE26UR will work great since it has a magnetic base it will stick to any metallic surface. If you plan on doing any towing, the custom wiring is # C56217 or # 56042 with existing factory tow package. A ball mount kit like # 989891 will included a 1-7/8 and 2-inch hitch balls, ball mount with 3/4 inch rise and 2-inch drop, pin and clip and a storage bag. When looking at towing capacities, whether it be gross trailer weight or in this case tongue weight, you always go by the lowest rated item in the system. In this case, between the Curt trailer hitch # C13200 and your 2015 Toyota Highlander, the vehicle has the lower tongue weight capacity rating meaning you are limited to 500 pounds tongue weight. Vehicle capacities cannot be increased and the addition of the hitch does not increase the Toyota spec of 500 pounds. If you plan on doing...
