Installing Electric Brake Controls on a Chevy Uplander, Pontiac SV6, Buick Terraza or Saturn Relay
Technical BulletinSUBJECT/Summary: 2005-2008 Chevrolet Uplanders, 2005-2007 Pontiac SV6s, 2005-2007 Buick Terrazas and 2005-2007 Saturn Relays use a multiplex wiring system.
PROBLEM: If you connect a brake control to the "cold side" of the brake light switch, it will shut down the brake light system.SOLUTION: The brake light switch sends an input to the Body Control Module (BCM), which activates the high mount stop lamp. The wire that operates the high mount stop lamp can be used to activate the brake control. Connecting to this wire will not have any effect on the BCM according to GM.
The signal for the red wire can be obtained at the BCM. The BCM is located just under the front of the dash on the left side, just above your left knee as you are seated in the driver's seat.
On the very bottom of the BCM you will find a 52 pin connector. The label on the bottom can identify the BCM. On this label will be the acronym "VCBM" , and the 52 pin connector will have a green locking clip. In the center of this 52 pin connector you will find a white wire. This wire is the high mount brake light wire.
The white wire is in pin location 30. This wire will have 2.5 volts with the ignition in the run position, even though the brake pedal is not applied, and will go to 12 volts when applying the brake pedal.
From my research your 2007 Chevrolet Uplander does not have the wiring for a 7-way trailer connector or a brake controller already installed. So the #3015-P will not work for you. In order to install a brake controller, like the Prodigy P2 #90885…
I checked with my tech contact at our distributor for the Everchill Refrigerator for RVs #324-000119 and he confirmed that this unit does not use a Danfoss compressor. This 12V unit does use R134A refrigerant (Tetrafluoroethane) which is an…
To install a brake controller on your 2005 Chevy Uplander, you will need three things. First, a brake controller. I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2, #90885. It is one of the more popular brake controllers because it is easy to use and install. I…
To connect back up lights you need to have a 7-way trailer connector on both your trailer and tow vehicle. On a 7-way the reverse lights are powered by the center pin. To connect reverse lights to the trailer's 7-way you can use 16 gauge wire…
I did some research on your 2007 Chevrolet Uplander and found that the maximum recommended towing capacity for this vehicle is 3,500 pounds. If your trailer is 2,600 pounds empty, you would be limited to 900 pounds or less of cargo. If 900 pounds of…
The Thule Spare Me Bike rack part #TH963PRO and the Yakima Spare Tire part #Y02599 both do come with locks to secure the rack to your spare tire and cable locks to secure the bikes to the carrier. The biggest difference between the two and is only an…
The red wire on a brake controller signals the controller that you are stepping on the brake pedal, so it has to be connected. It does not operate the brake lights on the trailer. It attaches to the cold side of the brake switch. The brake switch is…
A 4-Way trailer connector has the basic lighting functions only; running lights, left turn signal and brake lights, right turn signal and brake lights, and ground. A 7-Way has these functions and a 12 volt circuit, a circuit for electric trailer…
The difference between the Class II and Class III hitches has to do with their Gross Trailer Weight (GTW), their Tongue Weight (TW), and their Hitch Receiver Size. Class II trailer hitch receivers have a 1-1/4 inch receiver and can be rated up to…
If you just need a 4-pin to 7-pin trailer wiring adapter, then you can use part #C57672. This will plug into the 4-pin trailer connector on your brother's vehicle and give him the 7-pin socket for the trailer. Keep in mind, this will only give…
The Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty #RED24FR is the way to go over the Elite #RED44FR as you get the nicer functions of the Elite at a lower price. The Elite has the ability to be the more preferred proportional style of controller as well as a time-delayed…
