Expert Answers about Audi Q5

  • Where to Feed the Security Strap of the Yakima FullBack on a 2019 Audi Q5
  • If you are having trouble feeding the security strap of the Yakima FullBack, part # Y02634, through the top of your hatch, then you can feed it through the bottom. The security strap is not meant as another point for anchoring. It's simply there as an anti-theft strap that will keep the rack from coming loose if someone tries to pull it off. As such, it doesn't matter if you feed this through the top or bottom of your hatch since either way the anchor will stay inside the vehicle.

  • Installing ZCI Circuit Protected Wiring Harness on 2015 Audi Q5
  • In order to install the ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness # 119250KIT on your 2014 Audi Q5, you would have to determine the functions of the wiring by using the kit's included circuit tester, as per the directions. Wiring can be different from year to year and there is no universal color code which is followed, so it's important to test your functions so you can wire it properly the first time.

  • Installers for Trailer Hitch on 2013 Audi Q5
  • We do not have any installers we are affiliated with, so to install either the Draw-Tite # 75940 or Curt # C13136 on your 2013 Audi Q5 you will want to find someone local you are most comfortable with, and importantly, someone with hitch experience. Calling around and asking if they've installed hitches, and specifically on your vehicle should point you in the right direction. A couple things to keep in mind when selecting your hitch is that the Draw-Tite # 75940 is a more difficult install...

  • Locating Right Turn Signal Circuit on 2012 Audi Q5 To Install Trailer Connector
  • Because the car manufacturers can vary the vehicle wire colors from year to year, we typically tell folks to wire by function, not by color. We haven't yet installed a wiring harness on a 2012 Q5. When we installed a taillight wiring harness on a 2011 Q5, we found that the wire for the right turn will located in the upper connector and was a black wire with a green stripe (see linked video). The wire attaches to a tan plug. The plug will have many wires going into it, but each wire slot...

  • Recommended Stealth Hitch For A 2017 Audi Q5 And Someone That Can Install It
  • The Stealth Hitches # 391AUDQ509 is definitely a fit for your 2017 Audi Q5, but is not an easy one to install. With that said, we have indeed started to get some installers listed on our site and I included a link to where you can find them below. You will just need to update the zip code to see those in your area. If there are currently none listed though, I always recommend going to a mechanic that has done good work on vehicles for you in the past. They will typically do the best job...

  • Hitch Installation and Liftgate Sensor Operation on 2018 Audi Q5
  • Curt hitch # C13331 and Draw-Tite hitch # 76183 are both 2-inch Class III hitches confirmed to fit your 2018 Audi Q5. These two models install in the same manner and they share identical capacities of 750-lbs tongue weight and 5000-lbs total trailer weight. Both are shown on the linked page. Note that your car's weight ratings, if lower than the hitch ratings, still apply and determine overall capacity. On most vehicles with a rear lift gate sensor installation of any hitch tends to interfere...

  • Installation Instructions for Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch for a 2012 Audi Q5
  • The instructions for Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 75940 are linked on its product page below the description and they are linked on this answer page as well. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag. If the ball mount kit does not have the right rise...

  • Can I Use the Curt Echo Even Though the Factory 7 Way Connector is Angled Down
  • We've actually seen this before with the Curt Echo # C51180 and Audi factory trailer plugs before, and the downward angle on your 7 way bracket will not affect the operation of the controller. You won't need to reposition the plug and the Echo will work in this orientation, so there's nothing to worry about there. You also should be able to plug in without any issues, but it's likely you'll get some dragging when going over speed bumps and such, so if that becomes an issue and there is...

  • Can the Rear Wipers of a 2011 Audi Q5 be Activated with the Over-the-Top # HRF2 Installed
  • There are 2 things that you cannot do with any bike rack installed and those are opening the rear hatch/trunk or using the rear wiper blades as both of these can cause damage to the bike rack. This is the same case for the Hollywood Racks Over-the-Top # HRF2 on your 2011 Audi Q5. Although the Over-the-Top is a fit for your Q5, if you want a bike rack that allows you to use your rear wiper blade then I recommend installing the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 75940 and using the Kuat Beta # B202-2....

  • How Does Tekonsha Trailer Wiring Harness # 119250KIT Wire to 2014 Audi Q5
  • A 2014 and 2016 Audi Q5 are the same generation so the install video for the trailer wiring harness part # 119250KIT that's attached below would be the correct guide to use. Looks like the blue and black wire carries the running light circuit so that gets ran to the brown wire of the harness, for the yellow wire of the harness you run that to either the gray and white wire or the gray and black wire on the left turn side of the vehicle and the same color for the right-hand side for the...

  • I'm not sure which video you're speaking of, but I've confirmed with Curt that the # C56190 is indeed the correct taillight converter for your 2013 Q5. • Recommended Hitch and Sway Control for a 2016 Audi Q5
  • I checked with our vendors and it looks like your 2016 Audi Q5 is not compatible with weight distribution systems. This has to do with the style of frame your vehicle has. The factory hitches Audi offers are not compatible either. There is a solution to address sway that does not require a weight distribution system. It is the Tuson Asymmetric Sway Control item # 335TSC-1000. This is an electronic system that helps correct sway in trailers by activating the brakes. This one-time, maintenance-free...

  • I have attached for you below a snip from the instructions for the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 75940 which is a fit for a 2012 Audi Q5.This snip goes over the details for trimming the rear bumper fascia. Unfortunately, Draw-Tite does not provide a measurement from the bottom edge so I cannot provide this. In order to find the depth of the cut you'll need to measure from the top of the rib or recessed area, down 6 1/4” which you can see in the photo below.

  • Trailer Wiring Harness Recommendation for a 2018 Audi Q5
  • I have 2 recommendations for your 2018 Audi Q5 and it all just depends on what you're comfortable with installing. For your application I recommend using the ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness # 119250KIT because it pulls power straight from your battery via the power lead and then it uses clamps to "sense" when to send power back to your trailer. The other option is the # C59496 which also has the power lead but this ties into your system by actually cutting and splicing into...

Even though it's being installed on a different vehicle, you can see what the connector looks like.

  • Do Proportional Brake Controllers Have to Connect to Stoplight Circuit of Vehicle
  • When I was first learning about proportional brake controllers I wondered the same thing. The answer is yes, you still need to tap into the stoplight circuit of your vehicle so that the controller knows when to start looking for braking activity and begin applying the brakes. You will need to use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to test all of the wires going to the brake pedal switch of your vehicle to find the one that only carries voltage when the brakes are applied and none when...
