Video Transcript for Pollak Wiring - Trailer Connectors - PK12800 Review

Today we'll be reviewing part number Pk12800. This is the Pollak trailer wiring connector. This will accommodate 4 or 6 gauge wires. Soldering is required for installation. All you've got to do is remove each terminal from the plastic housing. Solder each of the connectors individually.

It's going to offer a voltage rating of 12 volts with a current rating of 200 amps. You've got the cable protector back here. You've got the oversized pull tab that's going to allow disconnecting to be very simple. You've also got the raised portion here that way you can ensure the plug is installed correctly when you make your connection. To gain access to the wiring, you just need to loosen up the set screw back here.

There is a little plate on the inside that that will control. You can feed the wires through. You also need to undo the set screw right here. That's going to allow you to remove the housing and remove the plastic portion from the housing. Connect your wires, reinstall this portion into the housing, and then reset both screws.

That's going to do it for our review of part number Pk12800. This is the Pollak 2 pull trailer wiring connector. .

No one else has these (or any other) plugs with a high amp rating.Should work perfectly to power my electric winch. Good Quality!
Also bought springs & hardware, price was right & they appear to be as advertised.I have yet to install this stuff but i'm sure they will be all I expected. By the way, delivery was Lightning Fast!!!!! This stuff arrived a week before I expected it to! Kudos,E-Trailer Folks!

Installed the plug to power a custom 12V sprayer system I made for a customer who had an old shipping vessel. The plug is more than capable of handling the electrical load of the system . I ordered the plugs the other day and they showed up on time, as promised, and at an affordable price. The convenience of ordering on line saves us time which can be used to complete more work.

I do not own your products, I did however install them for a customer of mine as part of a project. All items are functioning as they should and the customer is still very happy with the quality of the job and components.

I've been looking for a connector for 2 4 ga wires for 9 mo. I know I'm not the only one trying to do this, I have ran into several people at stores looking for the same thing with no results. I found this one looks like it'll fit the bill for connecting my trailer to my tow vehicle with wiring large enough to actually charge the trailer battery. It came fast, and was all I had expected. I also bought the vehicle side connection and the bracket to mount it with. Should be an awesome set up thanks to etrailer

Its been a year! The charging set up worked great , We boondocked for 30 days charging the battery on drives between locations. the coupling never came unplugged on the horribly graded roads and sent plenty of amperage to the trailer battery.Over all.....no complaints, Ill use the dame product on my next trailer.

Was a perfect replacement for the old burned out lights on my Featherlite stock trailer!!!

very nice product, is exactly as they showed on the web site. I`m using this to run 12 volt power to my semi trailer. I have two winches and a hydraulic pump for the rear door, 12 volt lighting and a car radio that all run off 4 deep cycle batteries, and this will keep my batteries charging while driving, and it also provides power from my truck batteries and vice versa back to the truck. I`ve used this system on my personal as well as my professional over the road trailers. Thank you Etrailer, you have always came thru for me.

This plug is used to supply additional power for my pick-up camper.
The plug works as I would expect it to and I am happy with it once plugged into the socket. However the plug takes a great deal of pressure to insert. I have resorted to using a block of wood to fully insert the plug into the housing.

by:

Excellent connector. Very heavy duty and works great with a winch. You'll have to slide the brass barrels out the front of the connector, solder the cables with a propane torch and reinstall. Don't forget shrink tube before soldering.

by:

Nice and heavy duty, but there is no way to connect your wires. It is brass, so not sure if you can solder. I drilled and tapped the connectors to a 10/24 set screw and it works good now.

by:

  • Can Wiring be Soldered to the Back of the Pollack 2-Pole Vehicle Side Trailer Connector
The Pollack 2-Pole Connector, # PK12801, is designed to have the wires attached with ring terminals. By crimping on ring terminals to the ends of the wires and then holding them on with the included screw, it will provide a strong and quick attachment method. The last picture on the product page shows a clear view of the back where the wires attach. This connector is the vehicle side. If you also need the matching trailer side, it is # PK12800.

  • Does the Pollak Single-Pole Trailer Connector Provide a Ground Connection
The # PK11851 Single Pole Round Pin Trailer Connector is designed to deliver power to a trailer. It is not grounded, as the battery on the tow vehicle is already grounded and trailer mounted equipment is typically grounded as well. The ground connection would typically be carried through an additional connector, depending on the piece of equipment you are supplying power to you might need to increase the ground wire gauge. If you need the connector to power a winch, you would be better...

  • What is the Amperage Rating for Pollak 5-Pole, Round Pin Trailer Wiring Connector # PK11501
In terms of handling up to a 30 amp power draw the Pollak 5-Pole, Round Pin Trailer Wiring Connector # PK11501 can handle 15 amps. Thirty amps would be too much for it. That is why I would go with a 6-Way, # PK11604. As far as environmental conditions considering that I assume this will be on some sort of watercraft the outer shell is chrome plated and die-cast zinc so it does have decent protection against corrosion. After running wires to the plug and closing it up make sure to wrap...

  • 2 Pole Connector for Powering Trailer Battery and Trailer Liftgate
You don't have to use an isolator if you don't need one. If your plan is to unplug the trailer when not in use there would be no need to use an isolator. For a 2 pole socket for your vehicle we have the part # PK12801 and then for the trailer side we have the part # PK12800 which would be a great solution. I wish we had a fairlead or roller solution for your winch cable but at this time we do not.

You will want to use the socket part # PK12801 to provide you with a 2 pole connector and then the part # PK12800 which would run to the fridge. We had issues with that product so we don't carry it and they don't have a connector available as a separate part. I reached out to them directly to confirm this. The best solar panel in my opinion we carry for cost to function is the Go Power Portable Solar Kit w/ Digital Solar Controller # 34282730 and then you can simply use the 7-Pin Trailer Adapter for Go Power Portable Solar Kit...

  • 2 Pole Wiring Connector Recommendations for Powering Winch on Trailer
That would be a great idea. We don't carry 4 gauge wire, but the # PK12801 2-pole connector would work great for what you are trying to do. For the male connector you would want the part # PK12800. The connectors are rated for up to 200 amps so you will need to make sure your winch doesn't draw more than that.

The Pollak 2-Pole Trailer Side Connector, # PK12800, and the Pollak 2-Pole Vehicle Side Connector, # PK12801, are made for each other and they would be excellent connectors for your Powerwinch RC30 trailer winch. If it is possible, I would recommend running 8 gauge wire because it will provide less resistance on the circuit and electric winches typically require thicker gauge wire. These are zinc die-cast connectors that are very durable. They are commonly used in heavy-duty applications...

  • Parts Needed For Running A High Capacity Charge Line To Trailer
Yes, you will need to run a separate ground wire with the main power wire. So it would be best to use the Pollak 2-Pole Socket Connector # PK12801 with their 2-Pole Trailer Wiring Connector # PK12800 for your power wires. The physical connection from the ball mount will not work as an acceptable ground connection. I recommend using battery cable as a suitable cable for the power wires. I recommend the Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Battery Charger - Dual Input - DC to DC - 12V/24V - 25 Amp # 331-BCDC1225D which will allow you to have power from a solar panel amplified and will amplify the trailer battery...

  • Can 4 Gauge Wire from a Battery Isolator be Used to Power a Small Winch
Yes, you could use the Pollak 2-Pole Trailer Wiring Connector and a 4 gauge wire to power a small winch as long as the wire gauge for the winch is not thicker than 4 gauge. Since the winch is small, it likely uses 8 or 10 gauge wire, so you should be fine. I have attached a help article that explains different methods for wiring an electric winch for you to check out.
