Easy-Pull Ring Handle Is Easy to Grip and Pull

Easy Pull

Standard 4-way flat plugs have a small surface area to grip when you are pulling them apart, forcing you to wriggle the plugs back and forth to loosen them. You might even pull on the wires, leading to broken terminals or ripped wiring. With the Easy-Pull harness, the plug has a large grip ring designed to make disconnecting a snap. Simply slide your finger into the ring and pull the plug away from the opposite plug to disconnect.

Easy Pull Rings

The Easy-Pull is also available as a trailer-end 4-way flat plug. Combine the Easy-Pull vehicle-end plug and trailer-end plug for the easiest possible disconnection. With ring handles on both connectors, disconnecting is as simple as gripping the rings and pulling straight apart. No wriggling, no broken terminals, and no damaged wires.

Built-In LEDs Light Up to Confirm Power

Easily troubleshoot any trailer wiring problems with this lighted 4-way connector. It has built-in LED lights that help you determine quickly and easily if the trailer connector is receiving power from your tow vehicle. Just plug the connector into the 4-way flat on your trailer. No separate circuit testers are needed.

LED lights help with troubleshooting

Activate each function on your vehicle and a red light will come on if power for that function is being sent by the vehicle-end connector to the trailer-end connector. If the connection is receiving power for all of the functions, but your trailer's lights are still not working, then you know that the problem is on the trailer end and you will need to check your trailer's wiring. Each function, except for ground, is represented by a separate light, and the functions are labeled for easy identification.

4-Way Trailer Connector Installation

Because the color/function of the new connector wires may not match the color/function of your vehicle wires, be sure to use a tester (sold separately) to determine the function of each wire on your vehicle's tail light wiring harness before installing this connector. Once you've determined the matching functions, use quick-splice or butt connectors (sold separately) to connect the corresponding wires.

The number 1 reason trailer wiring comes up faulty is a bad ground, so make sure your ground wire has a solid and clean connection to metal. To make this connection, you'll need a ring terminal and a self-tapping screw (sold separately).

Quick Tip:

We install a lot of wiring harnesses around here, so we thought we'd share a few tips we've picked up over the years.

  • Butt connectors - especially heat-shrink ones - provide the most secure, longest-lasting connection, so we'd recommend you grab a few and swap them out for the quick-splices in this kit.
  • Use a circuit tester on the plug terminals once the harness is installed to make sure everything's working. There's nothing worse than figuring out that you have a bad ground or a faulty connection right before you're about to hit the road.
  • Be sure to put a little bit of dielectric grease on the 4-way plug to protect the terminals from dirt, grime, and corrosion.

  • How To Tow a Trailer With 4-Pole Flat Using a Motorcycle With 5-Pole Round
In order to attach your motorcycle with 5-pin round to a trailer with 4-pin flat you will need to make your own adapter using the Pollak 5-Pole, Round Pin Trailer Wiring Socket part # PK11502, the Hopkins Endurance Easy-Pull Harness part # HM48058, and the Roadmaster Brite-Lite Wiring Converter part # RM-732. • Troubleshooting Trailer Lights Staying on Constantly
There are a couple of reasons why your trailer lights may be staying on constantly, starting with a corroded connector. What corrosion does is cause a short which can lead to the lights staying on, and when you unplug the connectors they would, of course, turn off. So start by checking there, and if you can't clean the corrosion, you can replace the connectors on either the side of your Transit or trailer. I'm not sure if you have a 4-way or 7-way but if you have the factory tow package...

  • How To Identify Functions Of Trailer Wiring With White, Yellow, Green and Red Wires
The most logical explanation is the shop that built the trailer used a red wire in place of the brown but as not all shops have to abide by a particular set of wire colors on trailers it is best to ensure what the wires run to. You can determine the wiring functions by either tracing the wiring or using a battery to jump the wiring and verify its functions. Typically on 4-way wiring the white is the ground which will run to every light or it will connect to a ground on the trailer. The...
