Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Worked exactly as expected for a 2016 Audi Q5. Note that I didn't install it (got the dealer to) and they had no issues. I also bought the wiring kit to go with this, instructions were clear and have started towing our little trailer to go out camping. 10 out of 10 would buy again ('cept this will last forever so I won't need to :p)

Would also like to thank the staff at etrailer - I had a bunch of questions looking for the right parts (the wiring, and the ball mount). Can't remember whom I talked to but she was patient and helped me through the process.

2014 Audi Q5

The hitch arrived in great time. Looks good structure wise however due to the chosen box or lack of protecting wrap I will have to paint the parts of the hitch that have been scratched or have had the paint completely removed to prevent rust/corrosion.

I am sorry to hear about the paint. Customer Service will reach out to you. The hitch will need covered with anti-corrosive spray paint. Here are some tips in this help article:

The hitch is great. We unfortunately got rear ended in the vehicle I installed the hitch on. The Bumper cover was heavily damaged, However the hitch was intact with no damage whatsoever. I am very pleased with my purchase. The hitch holds the dirt bike rack with ease. Along with other fun things we put on the back of our Q5. I highly recommend this Hitch to anyone who is looking to get a hitch for their Q5.

I needed to add a foam arc to it to the cross member to support the bumper cover. If you look at the arc in the original aluminum bumper, it provides support for the cover if hit. Without that it will crack if hit in cold weather. I used 2" Formular 150, used curve of aluminum bumper as a pattern, secured in place with duct tape. Once cover is on, it's captured quite well. Fit in nicely. Surprised DrawTite doesn't arc the cross member or provide an insert.

Works fine. Bonked the center of my bumper cover when backing up and it left a mark. Think Im going to weld a plate on the hitch so it cant to that again. Only use the hitch in the spring and fall to get boats inout.

2015 Audi SQ5. Price was great. Received it in CA in 4 business days for free. Could not have even attempted it without the video but glad I did. I've heard the dealer cost is about $800 and I don't trust anyone else to do it. Hardest part by far was disconnecting the electrical connections and wiring harness for the bumper cover. Some of them were very stingy to disconnect. Probably took 1.5 hours just for that. Just stay with it and you start to figure it out. It took about 3.5 hours total plus another 2 hours to cut the lower bumper cowl which is optional but looks great. It really tucks up nicely behind the bumper cover. You almost don't even notice it. With the cowl cut with a jig saw it looks better than the factory job. I made the cuts tight on the receiver and my straight hitch pin still fits. If you had a locking pin you would either have to remove the cowl plate when towing or cut more of the plate for room. I also did not install light connections. I will only use this for motorcycle and bicycle transport so no lights required. See pics.

Porsche Macan

Installed on my Porsche Macan at a fraction of dealership pricing and I think it looks better. Used primarily for hitch mount bike rack , but also pulls a utility trailer. Installation was reasonably easy with detailed instructions, but took quite a bit of time. Very happy with it!

by:
2017 Audi SQ5

Super cheap option for adding the flexibility to carry bikes. The install was also very easy with the help of the video. The finish isn't the strongest as it is wearing away and starting to rust after not a lot of use. I use it about 1x/month and am very careful with installing the bike rack to not chip the surface. Regardless of that, I am happy for the price paid.

by:
2017 BMW M6

The product arrived in time, with good instructions for installation, and adequately packaged. The installation of the hitch was much easier than I anticipated, and the videos and photographic steps were easy to follow. I completed the hitch install over a few hours by myself, and it's holding up well to carry my bike rack! Thank you for providing a great resource and making this process easy for those who don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on installation and labor fees.
Note on installation for the 2017 Audi Q5: for those not familiar with tools at all, the M16 wrench socket should be a 6-point, short socket, and the M10 should be a 6-point, long socket in order to reach the appropriate nuts and bolts within the car. The installation paper also refers to tightening an M6 to a certain ft-lb, but this should refer to the M16...believe it's a typo.

Can't say enough good about etrailer! Service, people, price, shipping speed, the list goes on and on.
Price was right and install on an Audi Q5 is super easy and straight forward, direct fit, all holes line up. Super easy! In the middle of the install I had to call etrailer for torque specs as they were not included in the directions but they answered and within 10 seconds I was setting my torque wrench.
Couldn't be happier, afterwards I decided to trim the plastic to make the appearance look as oem as possible and it came out great.

2016 Audi Q5

Just finished installing the hitch on 2016 Q5, whole job with a friend took about an hour.

Watch the video a few times and it's pretty straightforward. I followed "Stanley's" recommendation and didn't disconnect wiring harnesses from the bumper, I just put bumper to the side and supported it to not put strain on wiring.

My Q5 has access panel (like the video) that the receiver fits through, so no cutting and very clean looking install.

Very pleased!

Product came as intended. Local UHaul installed w/o issue and I performed the fit and finish with a Jig saw.
Product is quality and would buy again.
Ordering both wiring and hitch was very easy from etrailer and arrived securely wrapped.
Thanks for the ease and providing quality products.

2016 Audi SQ5

I took a slight gamble and purchased this hitch for a 2016 Audi SQ5, and can confirm that it fits with no problem! Installation did require bumper removal, but the hardest part was unplugging and removing the wiring harness. Make sure you have a spot to put the bumper where it cannot get scratched! Once installed, I used a Dremel tool to make a cut out in the removable panel for a cleaner look. All in all, it took about 3 hours from start to finish. I prefer the more OEM look of this hitch, as it goes behind the bumper instead of attaching underneath.

No issues after a year. Works excellent with the Kuat NV 4 also purchased from etrailer. If I had to nitpick, it would be regarding the clearance between the bumper fascia and the pin holes. When putting the stabilizer bolt in with my old Saris Freedom 4 rack, the socket would scratch the cover. Hitch also works well when towing a 4x7 trailer with a full load.

by:
2014 Audi Q5

Just installed, not used yet, on my 2014 Q5 and was a fairly straightforward install. Really like how snug this fits up to the bumper. Nice and high to avoid dragging. Notes: Hopefully to help someone in the future. The bumper cover bolts require a deep 10mm. And if wiring yourself, there is no independent brake and blinker, you tap into the blinkers, as usual, and simply ground out the brake wire.

by:
2015 Audi SQ5

Product was great. I follow the video it was pretty good except they cut some parts where the bumper holds under the wheel well plastic bracket . Also i didnt need to remove the harness from all the stuff on rear bumper I just got something to hold bumper on the side and didn't disconnect any clips . took me 1hr 45 mins to do .

by:
2016 Porsche Macan

Despite my caution, the install was straight forward. The instructions are geared more towards the Audit SQ5. While similar, the Macan installation requires less effort. The hitch will add additional weight to the vehicle, but it's worth it considering the high quality of the hitch.

A year later and the hitch is working flawlessly. I use the rack for my bike rack.

Great service quick delivery this is the third hitch I have purchased and they are easy to install and the videos are right to the point. I highly recommend etrailer for all your trailer needs. Great customer service and a wonderful web page.

2015 Audi Q5

This fit our 2015 Audi Q5 perfect. The instructions and video from etrailer were spot on. Great job! Only one caveat, in the video it says when you remove bumper you have to disconnect all the plugs individually. Actually there's a grommet on the right rear of the car that has a single plug on the inside that can be removed and pulled through. See photos. Makes it a tiny bit easier.

by:
2017 Porsche Macan

Great product with good looking fit and finish. Fascia trimming dimensions are spot on.
Instructions for Porsche Macan leave a lot to be desired though. Many items in the instructions are either incomplete, incorrect or out of date. Example, step 11 to remove 10mm nut from bumper fascia stud. This does not exist in 2017 Macan.

I checked and we do have the most up to date manual from the manufacturer on our site. Since it does fit 2-15 - 2019 Porsche Macans there can be overlap between the model years. I recommend following the manual as closely as possible.

2014 Audi SQ5

One year into owning the hitch that I installed on my Audi SQ5, I am 100% satisfied. Hitch, car and bikes that I haul around are all doing great. I was initially nervous about the complexity if this particular installation, but the video was perfect and I saved lot's of $$ doing it myself.

2015 Audi Q5

The box arrived today. This is the second box of hitches that arrived in very bad shape. It was just about ready to come apart. But all of the parts were still inside the box and fortunately arrived undamaged with no paint scratched off. The instructional videos for installing the Draw-Tite on the Audi Q5 were really useful. I spent yesterday taking apart the back end of the car. And it took me a matter of minutes to install the hitch. I believe this is a very sturdy hitch design. Cutting a hole in the access panel is a nice touch--looks like a factory job.

by:
2016 Audi Q5

It took me almost a month to install the hitch because of all the items on my honey-do list. But once I had the time it was super easy. Just follow the video, don’t miss any steps and you’ll be golden. Thanks guys, this one car project did not come with any cussing.

by:
2013 Audi Q5

Great product, perfect fit! I would not attempt the install without the etrailer video. Total time of the installation was 4 1/2 hours. I took my time especially while cutting the bumper cover and it turned out great. I really like the low profile design and think it makes the Q5 look like a proper SUV.

by:
2010 Audi Q5

I do almost no home or auto repair. I was a bit intimidated by the 10 out of 10 difficulty rating of the trailer hitch install on my Audi Q5. With the videos on e-trailer it was really easy, it took exactly the time they suggested and I saved over $1000 and 2 weeks lag time doing it myself!
