Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Great product, but the bolt holes didn't line up! Luckily I had a hydraulic jack and a 2x4 that I could use to bend the part with bolt holes by spreading the two side pieces. That worked great and I installed the hitch successfully.

by:

So, let's start with the good. Etrailer packed the item well. It wasn't just thrown in a box like the last hitch I ordered.
Now the bad. This hitch is very poor quality. The hitch pin is not straight or square, so anything I put in it is going to be off to one side. Also, the hitch pin plate and chain clip are also welded crooked. Lastly, they painted over the welding tailings and whatever else was on this rack when coated. All they had to do was simply wipe it off before painting. It looks like it has boils all over.
In the end, I think whoever assembled this rack was either intoxicated, or just didn't care.
Needless to say, I will never buy a drawtite product again due to low quality. I wish return shipping didn't cost so much, because I would love to return this piece of... junk!
See my pics of the issues. I hope this helps others in their decision to not by this rack, and be careful buying a rack online.

This is the second Hitch I have bought from etrailer and I couldn’t say enough good things about them.
The customer service is excellent, the hitch is of the highest quality, as sturdy as any hitch out there, and the price is excellent.

I actually only owned this for 2 months since my car was totaled and I didn't take it off... But I did take a 30 hope road trip and hauled cargo and a bicycle with it and it did really well!

I ended up buying the same model Prius and I opted for the "EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - 2"“ so that I didn't have to use the converter since all of my attachments are 2".

I like them both. If you order the EcoHitch, be prepared to wait! I waited 6 months, but that was ok with me since I didn't do much with it during the cold months...

by:

Once I got the rusted bolts off the vehicle I was putting this hitch on, the installation went very quickly. Everything fit as it was suppose to! I really can't comment on the towing ability of the hitch, since I only installed it to use for a hitch mounted bicycle rack, But it works great for bike rack.

by:

Very solid and sturdy hitch.

I bought the draw tite hitch and Pro series Q slot platform 2 bike rack to be able to transport our 2 bikes with our Prius. The products were delivered in just a few days. The hitch was easily installed and the rack was very easy to assemble and use. I am very satisfied with my experience with etrailer.com. I highly recommend them.

2008 Toyota Prius

This is the second hitch I have purchased etrailer.com and installed myself. In each case the hitch arrived quickly and was easy to install. In both cases, I also used the video installation instructions provided on etrailer.com's website. Finally, both hitches were the best priced I could find on the Internet. When and if I need another hitch, I will visit etrailer.com again.

by:

Another excellent product from etrailer. Super easy installation with paper instruction and video by etrailer. Took me 30 minutes to install. Like other have said, cutting the plastic under tray took the longest time. Highly recommended.

by:

Well made, fit like a glove! All bolt holes lined up perfectly. I have a 20k# car lift in my shop so installation was a breeze. I wouldn't hesitate to buy this again if needed.

by:

Well made but welding slag could be removed better and better packing is recommend so two have prevented scratching and chipping of the black coating.

@Tim Great to hear that, thanks for getting back with us!

I got the hitch needed for the swagman bike rack I ordered. It fits and has held up fine. There is some wiggle and sway - it's not as tight as I expected, but I don't know how tight it could be to be able to insert the rack. No problems driving on highways and local roads. Just unnerving seeing the movement in my rearview mirror.

Same jiggle but keeping the bike on along with the locking arm. One suggestion: I got the smaller hitch, but it was too small to haul a uhail trailer. So I would get the larger more standard hitch, just in case you may want to haul something in the future.

Purchased this Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch 24808 for our 2005 Toyota Prius, to use with platform style Saris Freedom SuperClamp 2 bike rack. My husband installed this in about 30 minutes, with no problems. We found that watching both the videos at etrailer.com for installation on the 2005 and 2008 Prius models (same hitch model #) were helpful prior to installation. The information on etrailer.com was great for helping me choose the right hitch for our 2005 Prius

Great trailer hitch and Yakima bike rack combo from etrailer. Fast Shipping! Used on a 4 hour each way vacation, no problems. Install only took me 45 minutes, clear directions and their most basic hitch seems well protected paint wise. Nice work etrailer, did not think I was going to get away with spending so little for quality hardware!

Still using with no issues, now pulling small trailer as well. May the Force stay with it!

2007 Toyota Prius

Installed on 2007 Prius in approximately 20 minutes, laying on the ground, on my back without the car jacked up - I weigh in at ~220lbs. The installation instructions were unnecessary, as assembly is incredibly straighforward. Forget the razor knife and use tin snips to cut the composite shield. I highly recommend this product.

Also bought the T-One Connector. Again, the assembly could not be easier. Complete installation took no more than 20 minutes. I highly recommend this wiring harness.

Just completed a 600 mile trip and everything worked perfectly, as expected.

I have had no issues with the hitch or wiring connectors.

by:
2005 Toyota Prius

Shipping was quick. Install was not bad. The plastic pan came off easily and I enlarged the hole with a jig saw. I cut about 1-1/2" toward the driver and another 1" to the driver side. It needed another 1/2" toward the rear end, once I had it reinstalled, but I cut that with a utility knife. I didn't use a jack to lift it. I balanced it on two 4x4s to start the passenger-side bolts. Then I lifted the other side with a 4x4 block on end. That got it close enough that I could lift it the last bit and start the driver-side bolts. Took about a half hour, but I work slowly.

Having used the trailer wiring and hitch a few times over the past year, I am quite satisfied with both. In the installation of the wiring, I was unprepared in that the process messed with my electronic door locks and I had to get them reprogrammed. Otherwise, no problems. Thanks again!

installed perfect on my 2009 prius, great product
for those who buy this there is a stop tab in the hitch so not just any hitch will work
it has to be the same rating or the lock pin falls short of matching
my wife's yaris hitch works perfect
thanks etrailer!

The obstruction you speak of is a stop or a punch thats intentionally placed in the receiver tube that prevents higher-rated Class ll accessories from being used. Draw-Tite does this with their Class I hitches as a safety measure to prevent the hitch from being accidentally overloaded. The stop or punch is designed to prevent a Class II rated accessory from being slid into the receiver far enough for the hitch pin holes to line up.

2007 Toyota Prius

After this was shipped right away, and i received it, i FINALLY installed it on my Prius. It was incredibly easy to install. I did not have to jack the car up. The instructions were very precise and accurate. The hardware included worked perfectly. The only thing that went wrong is my wife complained about having to hold up the loose end while I installed the other end. :-)

One year later amd everything is still perfect. I have scraped it a bit pulling into my steep driveway, and it is still holding perfect!

by:

Fast shipping on product. Very good installation instructions.
Did notice that the receiver is NOT square with the cross frame itself, this has been noted over a year ago by other consumers and has not been corrected. As I use my hitch for mounting my bike rack on it is not an issue however if one was to be pulling a small trailer it would be tracking at an angle, rough on tires and the hitch. Also the mfg might think of reinforcing the outer edges of the receivers as they tend to distort over time. I have a hitch that weights about 25 lb and both bikes combined with hitch are about 100 lbs load.
Other then that the hitch pretty much is a good value and a easy install on my 2005 Prius

GREAT and I use it a lot. Just recommended Etrailer.com to my neighbor. The wiring for my 2006 Prius was so easy to install also. Thanks for selling great products.

by:

I used in conjunction with a hitch cargo carrier. It dramatically increased my ability to carry camping gear, or carry luggage when all the passenger seats are full. What is better, it doesn’t reduce your gas mileage as much as a roof box because it is within the streamline of your car, and doesn’t increase aerodynamic drag.

by:
2005 Toyota Prius

Hitch fit perfectly. I was able to install it in about 10 minutes. The T-Connector wiring harness also was easy to install - about 15 minutes. I ended up switching the positive-wire closed loop end for one with a smaller hole size so that it fit the aux. battery post better (original had too large a hole) but otherwise it was plug & play!

Hitch is well built, allows for exhaust flow without melting the bumper cover, and easy to install. Had some bare areas on the edges where the paint had chipped off (it is a heavy metal object - to be expected a little) but a quick spray with some Rust-Oleum black paint touched it up real quick.

  • Recommendations For Carrying Bikes On 2008 Toyota Prius
Unfortunately the design of the Prius rear end does not allow the rear wiper use when a trunk-mount bike carrier is installed. If you decide on a trunk-mount rack anyway I recommend a carrier like the Thule OutWay, part # TH45JV. This carrier has the patented FitDial system that ensures a great fit on the back of your Prius. It also includes a locking system to secure the bikes to the rack and a the rack to the vehicle. Another option is to install a trailer hitch and use a hitch-mounted...

  • Is there a 2" Hitch for a 2008 Toyota Prius?
Yes, there is! To add a 2" hitch to your 2008 Toyota Prius, I recommend the EcoHitch item # 306-X7196. This hitch is custom fit and bolts to your Prius with included hardware. This is the only 2" available for your vehicle. It has a 300 lbs maximum tongue weight so plenty of capacity for your bike rack. If you ever plan on towing you will also need a wiring harness item # C56147 and a ball mount kit item # C45534.

I have included a link to the installation instructions and a link to a video installation for the hitch for you. Hopefully you have the latter, because the only bike rack that will allow you to carry a pair of 70 lb bikes only fits a Class II 1-1/4" hitch or a 2" hitch, the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE2 2-Electric Bike Rack # HLY74FR. When selecting a bike rack you need to be sure it is rated for a Class I hitch because Class II accessories will not fit in Class I hitches, the shank will be too long. • Why Isn't There a Cutout In the EcoHitch for a 2005 Toyota Prius for Exhaust
The EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 306-X7196 is a great option for a 2005 Toyota Prius. It will sit up above the exhaust so there isn't a need for a cutout in the cross tube like the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 24808. If you look closely, the brackets are much shorter on the EcoHitch as well as the receiver tube being under the crosstube as opposed to the Draw-Tit which has much longer brackets and the receiver tube is attached to the crosstube.
