Recommendations For Carrying Bikes On 2008 Toyota Prius
Question:
I own a 2008 Toyota Prius. Are there any trunk mounted bike racks that leave the windshield wipers usable? Thanks

Unfortunately the design of the Prius rear end does not allow the rear wiper use when a trunk-mount bike carrier is installed.
If you decide on a trunk-mount rack anyway I recommend a carrier like the Thule OutWay, part # TH45JV. This carrier has the patented FitDial system that ensures a great fit on the back of your Prius. It also includes a locking system to secure the bikes to the rack and a the rack to the vehicle.
Another option is to install a trailer hitch and use a hitch-mounted bike carrier. The trailer hitch I recommend is part # 24808. This is a Class l trailer hitch and it has a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening.
The hitch-mounted bike carrier I recommend is the Swagman Trailhead, part # S63360. This bike carrier has a tilting feature when empty so you have access to the rear cargo area of your Prius.
If you are planning on carrying bikes with alternative frames like kids bikes or women's bikes I recommend using an adapter bar like part # 64005. This attaches between the seat post and the handlebar stem and allows the bike to be carried more level in the carrier while providing additional ground clearance. I have attached a product review video for this adapter bar.
