Today, well be reviewing part number DTLBM8600. This is the Fastway Flash Self-Locking Aluminum Ball Mount. The solid one-piece ball mount with the built-in drop or rise is going to let you mash the ball height of your vehicle with the tongue height of your trailer. It has a convenient self-locking system thats going to lock the ball mount to the receiver tube. Its going to feature these built-in locks that cant get lost like other kinds of hitch locks. The locks have these seals that are double-sealed to help keep out water and moisture, so its going to do a really good job when it comes to resisting corrosion and rust, and they dont require any maintenance.The key is whats going to operate the pin.
You can see how the pin is sticking out there. Thats the position that we would need when this is installed our hitch. In order to install it, we need to rotate the key, push the pins in. Then also, we have them lined up with the pinholes inside of our hitch. We can rotate the key to push the pins out.
Remove the key, and its going to lock it in place, so this will lock inside the hitch. Its going to come with two keys that use a pick-resistant tube style. The ball mount is machined from a solid piece of aircraft grade aluminum, so its going to be very lightweight, but its also going to be very strong.It also avoids welds which can cause weak points over time that may break. The entire unit has a really nice polished finish, so its going to create a high-quality appearance. It is designed for 2-inch by 2-inch trailer hitch receivers.
Its going to give us a towing capacity of 14,000 pounds with a maximum tow-away capacity of 2,000 pounds. When choosing a hitch ball, you want to make sure that the shank of a hitch ball design exceed the ball diameter which for this particular mount is going to measure right at 1 inch. Then, this is going to give us a drawbar thickness which is this portion here of also right at 1 inch.The platform is going to give us a measurement 2 and 3/8 of an inch in width. Then, the distance from the center of the hitch pinhole, this back here to the center of the ball hole is going to give us the same measurement of 8 and 3 quarters of an inch. Now if we measure from the center of the hitch pinhole to the upright bar just to the back of the upright bar, thats going to give us a measurement of 4 and a half inches.
The center of the hitch pinhole to the back of the shank is going to give us a measurement of 1 and three quarters of an inch. In order to install this, we first need to go ahead and bring our pins to the in position. That way, we can slide this inside of our hitch.Another thing too is you can use this in the drop or rise position. When it would be installed in the drop position, that would be as shown like this. If we measure from the ball platform to the inside top edge, the receiver tube of our hitch, its going to give us a drop of 6 inches. You can also use this in the rise. If we do that same measurement, its going to give us a rise of 5 inches. With the pins pushed in, we can slide this into our hitch. We get those pinholes in line, and then we can rotate the key pushing the pins out. Once the key is removed, thats going to be locked into place. No more fumbling around under the bumper trying to unlock the hitch pin.
Just what I'd hoped for. Extremely light-weight and easy to install/remove. Perfect mount for my new Jeep Cherokee!

Still just as happy with it one year later
These drawbars are well worth the money. I have multiples of these and have never had a problem with them. No more fumbling with locks, this has it built in. I highly recommend these to anyone.
I am impressed with etrailer! I find items in stock on their website that I can't find on many others. They ship immediately and their communication and customer service is fantastic. I've ordered two items on two different occasions. These were things I needed immediately or my camping trips weren't going to happen. I recall ordering both on a Sunday and not expecting the items to be shipped before late Monday. They shipped both early the next day and they arrived as expected. Impressive for these COVID times where even [other vendor] takes a little longer to arrive.
Old truck had steel hitch which rusted in could not change out had to have it cut out. This is a great product, exceptional quality will never go back steel.
Nice quality, it is a plus not having to fool around with a pin and retainer. Would buy again

I was really looking forward to the simplicity of an all in one mount and locking pin system. I'm not sure if I got a Friday afternoon product or what, but I ended up returning the ball mount due to poor quality machining. The rounding of the corners of the shank was off by up to a 1/16" leaving some sharp edges and less than ideal contact surfaces with the receiver. I'm not a machining expert, but sure looks like it was misaligned when placed in the machine to do the rounding. Then it looks like someone still tried to polish the resulting work as a couple of the bad edges had been slightly smoothed. Then somehow this got past quality control and out the door. Does not instill confidence in their manufacturing process, quality control and monitoring, or belief in what constitutes a deliverable quality product. I expect better for $100+.
Etrailer was great about accepting a return and refunding me. Kudos to them.
Serves the purpose needed. Love the fact that it has a 2,000 lb tongue weight and a 14,000 lb tow weight. it gives me that extra safety margin. One big drawback is that I ordered two keyed alike replacement locks because I have another hitch different size but I am not able to remove the set screw following the instructions no matter how hard or what ever I use. So I am presently stuck with using two different keys and with a set of keyed alike locks.
This hitch was better than expected. Bright, well-built, heavy, solid, and precise are words that come to mind when describing this product. Combined with a stainless steel ball and you have yourself a real winner for a rust-free system. Fortunately, this thing can be locked. It's also easy to unlock and remove. The spring-loaded ball bearings on top seem to help with rattle as well. Overall, I would highly recommend this product to anyone who wants the best and has the money to pay for it.
This is my third DT (FLASH) Draw Bar. All three are in service. They are light weight but have higher GTW capacities then heavier draw bars. The four star rating is due to a couple things: 1) the shank on this Lastest purchase (from Flash) is not completely polished when set in the rise orientation. I used SemiChrome and a buffing when to finish the job.
All draw bars fit a little loose in the receiver, especially the DT8200 model causing some rattling and clunking when pulling an unloaded trailer. I resolved this issue by drilling n taping the second hole that was in the receiver side ahead of the lock pin hole and wrenching the draw bar down n to the side. Rock solid now and no more clunking. It's a quite set up.
The secure lock is easy to use and is theft proof.
I work in a machine shop and this is a great piece of hardware to add to your towing arsenal.
The built quality is great.
I bought this to use on my subaru xv crosstrek with the torklift hitch so it would be easier to get the hitch in and out without crawling under the car to remove the hitch pin.
Very nice quality, the photos of the product do not do it justice. It will look superb on my Jeep Grand Cherokee. I really can't wait for summer to put it to use and no more struggling with the old trailer hitch lock.
It's a nice piece of equipment and I'm looking forward to using it a lot. Note that the anti-rattle feature is no longer installed in these hitch mounts. The anti-rattle features were almost never in the right position to do any good with the short hitch tubes of today. The manufacturer told me they were discontinuing them because of that.
This item was: Delivered in a timely manner, the cost was reasonable, great looks and the quality was superb! I would strongly recommend this Aluminum Ball Mount if asked.

Great solid hitch but the lock is poor quality.
I left it on the truck for several months (with lock protection cap on) and one day I went to remove.
Found lock tumbler had shifted and was unable to insert key to remove.
Had to drill out lock to get ball mount off the truck. I know have a $80 aluminum paper weight.
Love this hitch, looks sweet on my lariat. You'd be hard pressed to find a better product then what these folks are peddling.

I was looking for an aluminum receiver when I came across etrailer.com. Upon searching I found the Diversi-Tech self locking ball mount. Honestly I didn't know these existed. Being one who has lost my keys off the bumper in the past this caught my eye immediately. I called to place the order and the staff was extremely helpful. I mentioned I was leaving on a trip and I was told they would try to get the product to me before I left. I've heard this in the past, but rarely does it ever pan out. Much to my excitement,two days before I left the product was at my door. Very satisfied customer. I will not hesitate to shop with etrailer again.
I'm a very picky buyer; like to research everything - and I also don't have a problem with paying a little more for quality - and for this aluminum ball mount that meant the polish/look of the mount, and even more important the quality of the locking mechanism. This product doesn't disappoint. I have no doubts this mount will take as much punishment as steel mounts and look 10 times better over time. I also appreciate having the integrated locking mechanism - cleaner look, in fact someone came up to me and told me they thought I'd forgot to but the bolt in it. So it looks great, does the job = all expectations met!
great product! elegant and solid. so nice to not have to worry about it easily being stolen. low profile and much easier to remove and replace than regular ones.
the only things to consider are:
-it cannot be used with an adaptor when dealing with a larger hitch receptors
-how to remove it if you lose the key or there is a problem with the mechanism
-it's not completely solid, given that the locking mechanism takes up some room
Very nice polished aluminum. It looks like it will last much longer than the old rusty metal one I had. In the past, i had bought 2 of those and neither one lasted very long before they were so rusted I was concerned they would spread rust to my very expensive hitch and receiver.
Very nice finish, and well designed product. The round key opens and locks the hitch in place, and the spring loaded balls in the receiver keep it from rattling on bumps.
I'm using mine tounge up, and it's just the right offset to keep my trailex sports car trailer level when towing and low in the rear for loading and unloading cars.
Non corrosive, nice design.

Hitch is still working fine. Much easier to lock and unlock with the key in the face of the hitch.
