This roof vent has a built-in 12V fan that uses a thermostat to help maintain an even temperature inside your RV, camper, or enclosed trailer. The fan can also be controlled manually with the built-in hand knob or with the controls on the vent housing.

Ceiling Vent and Fan with Thermostat

Air out your RV after cooking or just draw in some fresh air while you sleep. This variable-speed ceiling fan operates in 2 modes: manual and automatic. To activate the fan you can either turn the speed knob to the desired setting or you can simply activate the in/out switch, which will cause air to be pulled into your trailer or pushed out of it.

To use the fan, you must first manually open the dome by turning the hand knob. The dome must be left open while the fan is set in automatic mode.

When using the automatic mode, you can preset the fan to maintain a desired temperature inside your RV. The thermostat dial shows a range of temperature settings that are color-coded from dark blue to dark red. The fan's internal thermostat will sense the actual room temperature, and the fan will run until the preset temperature is achieved. When the temperature rises above the preset temperature, the fan will automatically kick on again. So when you go out, you don't have to waste energy by leaving the vent running at full blast just to ensure that your RV is cool when you return. And because the fan will activate anytime that the preset temperature is reached, you can set up the system to ensure that your pets remain comfortable while you're out.

To control the fan manually, turn the speed knob on the vent housing. There are 3 speeds: low, medium, and high. There is also an off position.

Installation

This vent requires a 14-1/4" x 14-1/4" opening in your trailer's roof and ceiling. To replace an old vent, install this vent into the existing opening. If your roof does not already have a vent, you will need to mark and cut an opening between roof joists to install this unit. And the 2-wire design makes it easy to have your vent hooked up and ready for use.

The 2250 Fantastic Fan still working great after a year!
Pretty quiet and the thermostat is a handy feature that works well.
In my application, it has a tendency to open itself while driving around unless it has been cranked down fairly hard. Driving with it open doesn't seem to be a problem other than the outside noise that comes in that way.
My application was a fiberglass raised top on a Chevy van. I had to make a wood frame as the fiberglass did not provide a flat surface to mount to. Photos below show inside frame, fan, and insulation.

my Fantastic Fan is working GREAT! We installed it in a 15 pass van converted to a camper with 24 raised top. The van is very well insulated all around with interior curtains as well. The thermostat works great still. I describe it as equivalent to being in a shaded gazebo. We are quite comfortable leaving our dog in the van for any length of time parked in full sun as long as she has appropriate water and food supply. She always seem quite fine and happy on our return. Quiet enough to leave on during hot night. Thermostat will turn it off when it cools suffeciently. Very happy with unit.

by:

This is the second Fantastic fan I have purchased to replace the two vent fans on an older Airstream trailer. Fit, form and function are perfect for my needs. Installation was easy and the fan works perfect.

by:

This is my second Fantastic Fan. I thought I'd try an amazon/China knockoff but sent it back as it had no thermostat and decided I want to by AMERICAN products for the most part when I can. I have had a FF in my Lance camper for ten years and it works great. Just put this new one in a Keystone trailer
I just bought. I expect the same reliability from this quality name.

by:

This fan is no longer being manufactured by Dometic, but I was happy to get one because I like the manual lift (rather than a remote plus rain sensor - I've read too many complaints about those models and they are close to $100 more). The fan came undamaged and not a returned item - another plus - I ordered from another company and the fan was broken, but had obviously been returned.

On the cover, the screws connecting it to the linkage to raise & lower the cover broke off the plastic they were connected to. On our 1st trip & after maybe 3 or 4 uses this happened. I"ll be ordering a replacement cover soon. I don't know--maybe wind is responsible. Otherwise, an excellent product. And was easy to install after removing the original, cheap one.

Thermostat not working correctly. I intend to disable it. Sometimes will not let air be drawn out no matter setting, only in. Otherwise satisfied.

by:

I love my new fan! It is great for keeping fresh air circulation in my truck camper. I live in my camper full time so it is getting used regularly and I just canโ€™t say enough good things about it. Installation was a snap. I actually did it up in the mountains. The night before, it rained hard all night and I experienced several leaks that night. Next morning I installed the new fan and of course stopped the leaks. I highly recommend it.

by:

Only recommendation is to keep the sensor's push pin clean, that activates fan when opening vent. Dirt/sand will build up and prevent fan motor operating. Darn blowing sand in the deserts!

Greg

4/15/2023

Very good, even with the blowing dustsand in the desert.

by:

The Fan-tastic vent roof fan arrived much sooner than expected. When I opened the box to inspect the fan every thing looked very nice. It will probably 8 weeks/ early May when the weather is nicer before I install the fan. It will be a nice improvement for the trailer.

Glad I put it in the trailer.

great service. Delivered on time

by:

Overall, I like the fan-tastic fan I installed in my RAM Promaster camper van conversion project. Installation was very straightforward and it is pretty quiet and effective in operation. I didn't assign 5 stars, however, because of one shortcoming. Since there is only one arm that holds the lid down on one side, the closed lid has a tendency to lift a little bit and make noise at highway speeds. Of course, I installed it properly (opening to the rear), but at speeds above 65 mph or so it doesn't stay tightly closed and silent.

I had an identical fan in my former trailer. It probably did the same thing but of course we couldn't hear it in the tow vehicle. In a van, it is a different story. A better design would hold the lid tightly shut in all conditions.

by:

Last project built. Used etrailer for almost all parts, including roof vent and so on. Friend wants one now so started another one. I will be getting all the parts from etrailer...

by:

This is a great, simple, fan, though not quite quiet enough for a teardrop build. Even on the lowest setting it is pretty loud and my wife declared it to be too loud for our trailer. We ended up sending this one back and spending more on the remote controlled one with something like 11 speeds. It is much, much quieter on the lowest setting and is currently on our build. I really loved the simplicity of this fan, but noise was a factor in our decision and this one is just a bit too loud.

by:

Pkg arrived when promised. Was in good shape and item had no damages. Good job by etrailer.

by:

Overall, I think this is a good product. I would have rated it higher, but the plastic cracked out (where the hinge arm for raising and lowering attaches to the lid. It cracked first time out on a road trip, just while driving, and not from actual use. So now it bounces while driving and doesnโ€™t remain tightly closed

by:

These fans are great!

by:

It's shocking to me how expensive a few pieces of cheap plastic are. It also came DOA. I used my very meager electrical skills to figure out that there was something wrong with the fuse assembly. I couldn't even get into it at first. The cap wouldn't release, and I ended up pulling the whole thing out of its mounting and ripping one of the wire connectors off its connection. I worked harder at it, and the cap came off, leaving the fuse and the metal fuse housing lodged in the tube. I ended up breaking the glass of the fuse trying to get it out. I've never seen such a simple thing work so poorly. I'm a moron when it comes to electrical stuff, but even I have easily and successfully replaced every fuse I have ever blown.

After a trip to the auto parts store, the thing is finally working and installed. I played with the fuse to see if it would come out easier the second time, and it will not. If I blow the fuse, I'm going to have to break into it - literally - to replace it.

An important note about the thermostat that no one seemed to mention in any of the reviews I read: it is very obviously aimed at a higher temperature range than I would have expected. Room temperature is deep, deep down in the blue zone of the knob. It's about 85% of the way from hot to cold. 85 degrees is about midway. I can't test how low the coldest trigger point is (it's summer when I'm writing this review), but I suspect that it is somewhere around 70. That will be fine for most people, but it not ideal for me. I tend to set the heat around 55-60, and it would have been nice if the vent could have come on at a lower temperature. Closed-up trailers sitting in the desert sun heat up quickly in the morning, especially in the spring and fall. I tend to wake up when the trailer gets too hot in the morning, not really when I'm done sleeping.

Otherwise, I would say that my experience mimics those of most other reviewers. It is way better than the complete piece of garbage that came with my cheap travel trailer. It's sort of quiet on the low setting, but nowhere as quiet as it could be if it were made from higher quality components. On high, venting out, it definitely draws in a nice breeze, especially if you only have one window open. It will definitely help when I camp in full sun without tree cover, which is mostly what I do.

I wish I could have found a better fan, with a thermostat, priced more reasonably, but I don't think it exists. So, at the end of the day, I am mostly happy with my purchase.

Douglas

After a year, about the only thing that I would add to my review is that the thermostat adjuster knob is a bit more logarithmic than I expected. That is to say, the bottom end of the range is down in the mid- to low-60s Fahrenheit. So, it came as a pleasant surprise that I could set it at 65F. Once I got the fan working and installed, I have been happy with it.

Excellent customer service

by:

On previous RV, had Fantastic Fan with auto rain lid closure. Worked great until motor/gear system plastic mounts broke. Replacement motor system never worked well.
Simplest system that should keep rain out 99% of the time is a Fantastic Fan with thermostat and a Maxxair Fanmate vent cover. All comments I saw indicate that the pair work well together at allowing air to flow efficiently and keeping rain out. We love it.

by:

GREAT! Quick service. Easy installation. Thanks for your help, again.

Unfortunately, do to the pandemic I have not used my new vent since installation. I anticipate it will be great.

by:

Wow am I disappointed. This is the 5th Fantastic Fan I've installed, 3rd in my rv and 2 in a friend's. I installed it over the bed and the past few days are the first time I've wanted to use it. The fan squeeks so loud the I can't run it at night. I've been very pleased with the brand in the past, but this one is a permanently mounted useless vent. I will have to replace it, so I am looking for alternative brands. What changed?

You mentioned that the fan is squeaking and is not useable. I did reach out to the manufacturer for a solution and they advised that the motor will have to replaced. We do carry the replacement fan motor kit, it is part # FVK8017-00.

by:

Very quick shipping. Order was delivered within days. Thank you!

by:

Works great. Relatively easy install, the hard part was removing the old fan. Improves airflow in trailer and frequently allows cool airflow without the need for A/C. Also helps keep air moving when cooking, removing smoke, cooking odors, and helps prevent false smoke alarms.

by:

good for price

by:

This fan has a lot of power to suck out the air in the trailer compared to my old fan. The old fan covered about 1/4 of the vent. This fan 100% of the vent opening is covered by the fan blades and has drawing power to remove stale air, hot air and humidity, plus it has a temp switch.

  • How Loud Are Fan-Tastic Vent Roof Vents
From my research the Fan-Tastic Vent Roof Vents like part # FV802250 are much quieter than the other vent options according to forums and customer reviews. However I was not able to get a decibel rating for the fan to compare. Customers have compared the sound to a quiet "white noise" sound.

Models with the electric fan, such as # FV802250, fit the same size opening. I recommend just using the model with the fan because even if there isn't power running to it yet you can still have the lid open to vent hot air.

The minimum roof thickness that the Fan-Tastic Vent Roof Vent part # FV802250 can be installed on is 1-1/2".
