Video Transcript for Tekonsha Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Trailer Hitch Wiring - 20135 Review

Today, we're going to review part number 20135. This is the Tow Ready multi-plug OEM replacement harness. This kit will let you add a 7 way RV style trailer connector and a 4 way connector to your vehicle. It has the factory tow package. This is a custom fit part number. It is designed to plug into a Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, and Mitsubishi vehicles, starting in the year 2000, that have the factory 7 way connector.

I would recommend this to go to our fit guide on our website, and you can put in your year and model of those vehicles, and it would tell you if this would be the correct part number for your application. This is a plug in, simple installation. There's no cutting or splicing required. This wiring harness, basically, will plug into your factor wiring at the back of the vehicle. The plug right here is extremely durable ABS plastic construction. It has a nice, oversized lid hinge right up here.

It helps keep out any dirt and moisture from getting to the terminals. It also has nice, enhanced weatherproofing. They do use seals on the cap itself, and the terminals are corrosion resistant. It does include the mounting bracket and the screws. They're all included. Basically, what you would do is, before you go and plug this in to the back of your vehicle, I would take your mounting bracket, slide it on.

Slide the four way also through there. Bring it all the way up, and you can see that it will line up. The holes on the mounting bracket will line up with the holes right there. At the very top, you'll see the holes for mounting it to the vehicle. Then, what's nice is, you'll see this little cutout on the side.

Basically, that's where you can just slide in your 4 way just like that. Then, plug this in and with this plugged in, this would be at the back of your vehicle. You have access to the 7 way, and then the 4 way, just like that. That should do it for the review on part number 20135, the Tow Ready multi-plug OEM replacement harness. .

1998 Dodge Ram Pickup

Exact same product that was in the picture arrived at my door, so the item was exactly as described. It plugged directly into my factory wiring harness on my 1998.5 Dodge Ram 2500 with a 24v Cummins. It did not fit on the factory mounting position, but mine was very bent anyway. So I cut it off and used the included mount. The self tapping screws that were supplied were not very strong, so I had to use rivets to secure the mount. But I was mounting it on the hitch receiver which is very thick steel, so it was expected. Overall, great product and works as it should.

2006 Dodge Ram Pickup

Yes, this product works great. It plugged into the factory harness. I would recommend this product

little problem hooking up to trucks wiring harness due to plastic square
connector being bent out of shape on bottom a little able to reshape and hookup, connector is a lot better quality than original one that was on truck and has 7-way & 4 pole connections makes towing different trailers easier awesome! fast shipping great price! helped me avoid dealing with dealerships high prices and delays on shipping and getting wrong product, website was easy to order from and great description of connector with good quality photos will save on my favorites and pass on to friends thank you Ross

Does this assemble connect to the wiring behind the left light assemble on the durango? want to make sure Im looking at the right thing. I need the entire assemble.

Patrick B.

7/23/2013

This does not connect behind the tail lights. It is designed for 2000-2008 Durangos that came with a Factory 7-Way. It will plug into a port or harness underneath the vehicle, near the rear bumper. If your Durango did not come with a factory 7-Way, There are 4 Pole flat harness systems that are designed to plug in behind the tail lights. Which one you need depends on the model year Durango. Use our Fit Guide to find out which.

2008 Jeep Liberty

This is a nice quality part I'm using to replace the OEM connector on a 2008 Jeep Liberty. I really like the way it has a four pole connector in addition to the 7 way connector which saves time and the hassle of finding the four pole adapter to plug into the 7 way socket. The OEM part that came with the Jeep was 7 way only. This is a great improvement. Fast shipping and super communication. Thanks!

These people understand customer service. I volunteer with SCORE as a small business counselor / mentor and the people at eTrailer epitomize how customer services should be handled. I requested confirmation that the part would work for my truck even though it listed several years beginning with the year after mine. They researched and determined that only the bracket would not be the same which was not a problem for me. Excellent product. Excellent service. Excellent company.

by:

Has held up really well. My vehicle had an aftermarket harness already installed, but the video on the etrailer site made fitting the new one in much easier. The instructional videos on this site are really fantastic.

by:
2000 Dodge Ram Pickup

Wonderful product. All I had to do was pop out the old wiring harness and plug in the new. Easy as that. Bought a travel trailer so need the 7 way, but have a boat which uses the 4 flat wire so problem solved. Happy camper and boater. Great price as well. As a ebay person I couldn't find a better deal. Now etrailer is bookmarked on my PC..

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Great customer service experience! The notification and follow-up was excellent regarding receiving my order, shipping my order and delivery of my order. This particular connector was exactly as advertised and plugged directly into my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo's factory wiring harness. I had to make a few minor modifications installing the bracket but it worked out just fine.

by:

The trailer adapter that I received is the EXACT Factory replacement item at a very reasonable price. Much less than the dealer was charging for the exact same item. Thank You!

by:

Had a small trailer I would always pull my dirt bikes never had trailer lights hooked up, which is illegal, I saw a product at etrailer for Only $29 bucks ,one two three clicks ,works imperfect. Avoid getting a ticket and for safety literally takes 5 minutes I would recommend hooking up your trailer lights

by:
2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

This was another great part from etrailer I installed it in just a few minutes on a 2006 dodge 2500 4x4

by:
2001 Dodge Ram Pickup

This product is genius! I no longer have to carry around an adapter for my utility trailer. It perfectly connected to my 2001 Dodge Ram and installed in less than 5 minutes. I have made several purchases from etrailer.com and I am more than satisfied.

by:
2004 Dodge Durango

Exact Dealer Replacement Item. 2004 Dodge Durango Trailer electrical connector.

by:

Easy install in my OEM footprint. Makes it easy to use either kind of trailer connector. Can't lose an adapter you do not need to use!

by:
1999 Dodge Ram Pickup

Bought this for my 1999 Dodge Ram 2500 and it was a perfect fit. The website made it easy to find the right part for my vehicle and the delivery was quick and without delay. I would purchase again from etrailer.com.

Jeep

I don't know how to post a picture, but trust me, this thing fit my jeep perfect. it was easy to install, no hassles at all. the young lady on the phone was very helpful and was very familiar with the product. it was delivered in a couple days, and was half the price the jeep dealer quoted. this was my third order. I'm very happy with price, service, products. I give them my highest recommendation.

by:
2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Good. Wasn't an exact fit on my jeep. I already had a bracket for the part on my car. Had to modify this piece to make it fit on the bracket already on my jeep. The plug was a good fit though

by:

Product is superior, the best 7 way that can be found it hooks right up to the wire harness easy as that hardware included is great.
Works exceptionally great. Great people at etrailer, shipping was fast.

by:
2000 Chevrolet Silverado 3500

Shipping was extremely fast. Fit perfectly. Plug matched my 2000 Dodge 3500. I didn't want to strip and clamp wires and with this factory fit I didn't have to. ( and a flat 4way to boot. )

  • Replacement 7-Way Trailer Connector # 20135 for 2006 Dodge Ram
As long as the corresponding socket located behind the bumper is still intact, the Tow Ready # 20135 will replace the damaged 7-way trailer connector. You can use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to test the existing connector to ensure it is still functional. This is done by activating the lighting circuits (headlight, taillight and turn signal) and testing the pins and making sure they light the tester. I have linked you to a video showing how the tester is used.

If your 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee did not come with a factory installed 7-Way trailer connector then there will be know plug and play options for a 4- and 7-Way connector but you can hardwire in one using # ETBC7. If it did come with a factory 7-Way then you can use # 20135 which is both a 4-Way and 7-Way. If you decide to hardwire in an ETBC7 and you do not already have trailer wiring, you will first need to install a 4-Way using # 118425. Then you will go ahead with the ETBC7 installation....

If your 2005 Dodge Ram 3500's existing 4-pole trailer connector works and you want to convert that to a combination 7-Way/4-pole format you can plug in part # 37185 from Hopkins. This item has both connector formats (7-way RV style and 4-pole flat) and simply plugs in to your existing 4-pole wiring. The lighting signals will then appear on both the 4-pole and 7-way contacts. The Hopkins part also includes pigtail leads to make the additional circuit connections for trailer brakes, 12V...

  • Troubleshooting Right Turn Stop Signal Not Functioning on a 2000 Ford F350 7-Way
The problem is somewhere between the 7-way connector and the wiring of your truck. You can try cleaning the pin on the inside of your 7-way. Corrosion or dirt on the pin can cause the circuit not to function. Even if it doesn't look that dirty try using some fine grit sandpaper to get the pin down to bare metal. Other places to check is the back of the 7-way. There might be corrosion there that needs to be cleaned. Also, check for exposed wire and fix as necessary. Aside from that you...

  • Recommended Trailer Wiring for 2007 Jeep Liberty
For your 2007 Jeep Liberty, many people have a receiver for a bike rack or cargo carrier and have not added the trailer wiring which sounds like what you are finding. If your vehicle has the factory tow package, the harness you will need to connect to is found under the vehicle in the center behind your hitch receiver. If you have that tow package then you can simply use the Tekonsha # 118381 for a 4-Way or # 20135 for a 7-way. You may still need to add # 5506 on some models for 12v...

This product is designed as a replacement 7-way, but if you have the square connector present then it would work as well.

This connector will not provide operating power to the trailer's electric brakes. There are a couple of potential issues causing there to be no power at your 7-way trailer receptacle. The first and most easy place to check would be for a blown fuse. You'll want to consult your owner's manual for your fuse layout to find the trailer towing fuse and check to make sure it is not blown. If it is, then you'll want to replace the fuse and you'll be good to carry on the way you were. If your fuse is fine, then there's a power supply issue. You'll want to use a multimeter...
