Recommended Parts to Tow a Trailer with a 2013 Ford Fusion
Question:
I am looking to get a trailor hitch for my 2013 Ford Fusion. I already have the trailer so I just need to make sure that the hitch I get will fit the trailer I have. I have the ball bearing but how would I make sure of this when buying it online?

You need to start with a trailer hitch receiver that is designed to fit your 2013 Ford Fusion. I recommend the Curt # C12091 because it's a Class II hitch and has a little more capacity than the other hitch which is a Class I. I've linked a video of the installation for you.
You mentioned you already have a hitch ball. Do you have the ball mount that the ball fits into? The recommended ball mount with the Curt hitch is # C45016. You need a ball mount that has the proper rise or drop that matches with your trailer. To find this have your trailer on level ground and measure from the ground to the bottom of where the ball connects to it. Then find the difference between that number and 10-1/2. This is the height of the Curt hitch opening once installed on your Fusion. What you are left with will tell you how much you need the ball mount to rise or drop the hitch ball. I've linked an article on this process as well.
The ball mount I recommended fits a hitch ball that has a 3/4 inch shank. So if the ball you have doesn't fit this you'll need a different ball or different ball mount. You also need a ball to fit the trailer. Your trailer's coupler will likely fit either a 1-7/8 inch or 2 inch ball. The ball you have likely says on it somewhere what size it is and your coupler probably says what it fits. It's often stamped into the metal.
If you need a different hitch ball use # A-80 for a 1-7/8 inch or # A-82 for a 2 inch.
You also need a pin and clip to secure the ball mount to the hitch. Use # F-4.
Finally the Fusion will need a wiring harness to power the trailer's lights. For a 4-way connector I recommend # 118574. It plugs in in-line behind the tail light assemblies. Then a wire needs to be run up to the Fusion's battery. This install video is also linked.
I've also attached some general information articles on towing for you.
