Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located inside your trunk, behind the tail lights on both the driver's side and passenger's side. You will need to remove some interior trim or carpeting to access the harness.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed within your trunk.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Circuit-Protected Tail Light Converter

A tail light converter is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. The tail light converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

This converter safeguards itself and your vehicle against possible electrical shorts and overloads with integrated short circuit protection. Just install the connector as indicated and rest assured that the wiring system of your vehicle will remain feedback-free.

After watching the installation videos I was a little concerned about how to route the power wire to the car battery. It turns out this wiring harness doesn't need a power wire. No need to cut/split wires either. Just unplug the connector from the rear light assembly, plug it into the wiring harness female connector and then plug the wiring harness male connector back into the light assembly.

The whole process took me about 45 minutes.

This went on a 2012 Mazda 3 hatchback with regular light bulbs.

Awesome, im going to grab the same setup for my 2012 Mazda3 S sedan.

by:
2012 Honda Accord

The item was delivered on time and the installation was as easy as they said.
The only thing is that the two sided tape wasn't included but I used the included self drilling bolt to attached the converting box.
Besides that, I am very satisfied with the product and it works.

Best harness for a car I ever bought and works perfect. I bought the hitch also an installed myself as I have before. Video helped me removed parts under this newer Civic so it was simple. Best customer service too because I had ordered the wrong riser for the hitch ball and the woman called me to tell me an re-did the order so it all arrived right and showed up in about 4 days !! Amazing company to say the least an was not my first purchase by no means. AAA+++

Great company. I am now sending you a picture of my Honda Civic, which I use to tow my teardrop camper. Thank you.

Bought this product about a year ago and still working immaculately. Couldn't be more pleased! Hookup was simple and diagram was very explanatory. Would reccomend to anyone! Thanks, eTrailer!

A year later and my lights still work flawlessly and wires are still in new condition. Couldn’t be more pleased!

Easy installation even with the previously installed remote braking system I installed to use the Fit as a tow behind our RV. I don't think it took 20 minutes start to finish.

by:
2009 Honda Accord

A [online] search & subsequent [online] video on your channel led me to this purchase. Extremely high-quality, extreme ease-of-installation, I couldn't possibly be more pleased with this product & company. Highest recommendation possible!! :)

2012 Honda Civic

Bought this at the same time I bought my hitch and hitch bike rack. figured if I was installing a hitch I might in the future haul a trailer and would need lights. later bought a hitch mounted cargo rack and added lights. boxes would cover or block my tail lights of my car, so I added lights to the cargo rack. Works great. Thank you.

Gabriel R.

4/18/2018

I couldnt be happier with all my purchases. I use the Bike Rack frequently and have used the trailer hitch to tow a trailer once so far. Maybe Ill get to use that a little more this year also. Love the purchases.

Honda Civic

The wiring harness was simple to install, but only after watching your video at Etrailer.com. The printed instructions were somewhat lacking. My Honda Civic has 4 light bulbs in each taillight. Instead of the instructions telling me to look for the brown wire, why not just show a simple diagram of the 4 bulbs and say "connect the yellow wire to bulb A(see diagram)? I got it connected and it works well. My kit did not come with the double sided tape to secure the box in the trunk. It came with a screw, but I was not willing to drill another hole in the car. Double sided tape works well.

No complaints. Lights come on when they are suppose to. Thats all I can expect from a harness.

by:
2010 Mazda 3

Install went off without a hitch (no pun intended). I jacked up the car, threaded the fish wire, all in all pretty simple. I actually did it on my own and it went well. I was under the car an braced the bar up, was able to get one of the nuts on and put the other two on to hold it into place while I finagled the other side into place (the passenger side outlet on the muffler was kinda in the way). I was able to get it on easily but tightening the last nut (closest to the back of the car) was a bit tough because the hitch frame gets in the way. Overall, it was simple, it's all tightened down, and now we can tow a trailer/cargo/whatever!

Thanks etrailer, your prices beat anyone on the internet and Uhaul by at least 100 bucks.

Shawn P.

6/9/2014

Actually thanks to you guys, much cheaper than Uhaul and other sites, the install was easy and everything worked well and we ended up towing a trailer from LA to Milwaukee when we moved, on a Mazda 3! So, yeah, pretty happy with it, now we can do things like put an attachment on for bikes or camping equipment or whatever. Thanks for the follow up, thats good customer service

2008 Honda Civic

A competitor wanted to charge me $70 to install a similar product on top of the price of the wiring harness. I purchased this product for under $50, watched a video showing how it is installed on my exact vehicle, and spent 10 minutes installing it. It works perfectly. I couldn't be happier. A+ for etrailer!!

Chad

Thank you for following up with me. I couldnt be happier one year later with our purchase. The hitch and wiring for the trailer work perfectly and I would not hesitate to purchase from you again and have already recommended your site to others. I was very impressed especially with the videos that allowed me to see how installation should go before I even ordered. This is a great feature. Thanks again for great service!!!

This took me about 30 minutes to install. I had never installed tow wires before but this kit was very easy. The hardest part was determining where to plug it in to the car's light system but the plugs fit well and no soldering was required.

Works just fine. No problem hooking up. Hondas are great for this.

by:

Install of wiring was fairly easy, made harder because I'm way worse at this than I think I am. Hardest part was figuring a place to stick the module, and finding something to stick it with. Box says it comes with double sided tape, but mine, at least, did not. Best to have some sticky stuff on hand just in case my experience is the norm, and not the exception.

Literally just unplugging wires and plugging them back in, but in a better, more different configuration. Lights work. I know because I tried it.

The wire the 4-pin connector is on is long, but maybe not long enough? It's long enough for my use case, but I can definitely see a longer trailer tongue or a shorter trailer cable causing an issue. A longer cable would be nice, but I'm sure a 4-pin extension would suffice as well.

Every other cable/wire is more than long enough, so no issues with getting it across the trunk of the car to the other brake lights.

4 stars, because of the lack of included (per the box, anyway) double-sided tape and a just-barely-long-enough cable could be a foot longer and stop worrying me. Quality otherwise is good.

Thanks Nicole for helping me out getting everything squared away!
Quick shipping all the way up to central Alaska!!!
Already mounted took no time at all!!!

2014 Honda Civic

Installed hitch and wiring harness in a 2014 Civic sedan. Be very sure to specify exactly the correct car when ordering since the fitments are very specific--as I found out when I ordered a harness for a Civic without being sure to get a sedan's harness instead of a coupe's! E-trailer was very good to immediately send me the correct harness and accept back my erroneous order.
The hitch is a two-person installation. I did it by myself with an extreme amount of effort to hold the muffler out of the way while threading the attachment bolt above the muffler. Three hands are essential--or else a lot of wood blocks and fine-grained metal bending. Once attached it is a very solid hitch and it is nearly invisible below the back end of the car. Yet the hookup has plenty of access for a trailer.

by:
2011 Honda Civic

The product was super high quality and well made. It was incredibly easy to install and only took about 10 minutes and that includes the time to take apart the trunk! The wire that connects to the trailer is flat and doesn't get pinched when closing the trunk on it!
Overall it was a great purchase! I had purchased the kind that you hardwire/splice in and decided to see if I could find a hassle free custom kit instead (I didn't want to accidentally short or cause any issues with my cars stock wiring) and I found this and I am extremely happy I did (you don't have to modify the stock wiring at all)! It was about twice the price but it is well worth it for the convenience!

by:

etrailer sure has made a fan out of me! The customer service has been fantastic - very friendly and helpful. The Curt receiver hitch I've installed on my Honda Fit is clearly top-notch hardware, and the instructional video made installation a snap. Many thanks!

Still working dependably. Its a good idea to use electrical grease to resist corrosion and to keep good electrical contact of mating plugs.

2015 Honda Pilot

I received my Tekonsha trailer wiring hitch for my 2011 Honda Accord EX today and had it installed in about 15 minutes. Plug and play and with the video link that was provided it was easier than I expected. I had to deduct a star only because the time my order was placed until the time it was picked seemed unnecessarily long considering it was in stock. I will likely order one for my girlfriends 2014 Honda Pilot next.

by:
2007 Honda Fit

5 Stars for etrailer's service.

The
video on their site show the job being done and it was not any harder. I did expect to be able to put the control module in the trunk space as they showed. There was not even close to enough extra wire to be able to install as shown in the video and my car is smaller than shown (Honda Fit). There was only enough extra wire to allow the module to not have to be inside the taillight assembly.

I got it installed and saved big money and it was easy. I could not believe how easy this was to install and it works.

I attached installation instructions for this product also. This hitch includes a ballmount and a pin and clip, to complete your towing setup you may be interested in purchasing a Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118420. I attached installation instructions and an installation video for you to check out also for this product.
