Video Transcript for Thule Crossbars AirScreen XT Review

Hi, it's Evangeline here at etrailer, and today, we have the Thule AirScreen XT, so this is gonna be a wind fairing for your Thule crossbars. We'll take a look at how to install it and how it works right here at etrailer.com. Wind fairings became super popular for the round and square crossbar market, especially the square bar, because of just how they're shaped, lots of noise when you go down the highway. Now, aero bars are a lot more popular, especially things like the Thule WingBar Evo, which is what we have up top on our vehicle. So we don't have as much wind noise, but for certain situations, maybe you have a cargo basket, maybe you have a bike on your roof, maybe you're carrying larger or bulkier items, you may want to decrease that wind noise, and that's where this will come in handy. I put a bulky thing on the roof, which is an entire bike with a bike rack and we have them on our aero bars.

Now, let's drive down the highway and listen to it. There's a little bit of wind noise from the bike, so we'll see if using a fairing will make a difference. So there really wasn't that much noise that I could notice, like I could hear a little whistle from the bike, but nothing too concerning, but I was also going about 60 miles per hour, and I just had a single bike up there. So if you have something bulkier, maybe a cargo basket, and you have more wind noise, you may want to install this fairing. So the fairing on a roof and the clip lined up to our crossbar, you get the strap, bring that over the crossbar, you're gonna push down while pressing on that clip, it's gonna be a tight fit.

So all the straps are secure, everything's lined up, we've got the rubber pads on the bottom. Well, now, we gotta take it for a drive. Now, while there was a little bit of a change, I don't think there was that big of a difference when it comes to wind noise that I could hear. Now, that could be different depending on what's on the roof and or what speeds we're going at, how much wind is coming down, things like that. So I do think that wind fairings we're very important when we had round and square crossbars as our only options.

Now, that we have aerodynamic bars though, not as big of a deal, they're solid, they're sturdy, and they don't make as much wind noise or have that much wind drag going down the road. Pretty much all of the other brands that have crossbars also have fairings for them as an option. This one, I do like the ratchet straps. They're a little tricky at first to get into and tighten down, but compared to clamps and things that have wing nuts, these are so much easier to use, kinda like the one that Inno has for their screen, you have to tighten that down with some knobs. Now, most of them have the rubber stoppers on the bottom that sit on your roof, I do like how this one is curved and designed to sit gently on your roof, create that grip and traction without sliding, but also, not scratching up your roof.

So if you are gonna get an air screen or a wind screen or a wind fairing for your roof rack, I personally don't think it's as big of a deal as it was with only round and square crossbar options. But amongst your wind fairing options, Thule has a very nice sleek design and very easy to install. Remember, you do have those different lengths, so make sure you get the right one for you. And that was a look at our Thule AirScreen XT Wind Fairing for your crossbars here at etrailer. My name is Evangeline and I hope you enjoyed the journey..

I have good news as we do have the rubber piece that you are looking for. It is part # TH22FH on our site.

The Thule Airscreen arrived a day earlier than I anticipated, which was awesome. Very smooth process. Installation was a snap (I recommend doing the first half inside on the kitchen counter or table, then moving to the garage/outdoors for the actual attachment to the vehicle). No tools are required, which made it easy. It looks great on the car -- and I opted for the "long" size (44") which I think looks better for our 2020 VW Golf than the smaller versions.

by:

It looks all right, thought it would be further forward. But my roof rack doesn't slide further forward than it is now. All of the parts were there and it assembled great. Overall mildly satisfied haven't driven with it yet.

by:

Looks awesome and totally eliminated the sound caused by my Thule square bars

by:

Great product. Does what it's supposed to, the wind noise is significantly decreased and it looks great!

by:

Item was just as described, shipped quickly and arrived in great shape. Always a good experience with etrailor.com!

by:

Awesome! Comes off and on easily and I e ran this thing through the car wash like 30 times this past year with no issues. 10/10
Also e trailer ships everything at lightspeed. 11/10

by:

Very satisfied thanks

by:

Very pleased with the way the Thule XT airscreen looks on my roof bars. Well made and easy to install.

by:

The instructions were half missing and dimensionally does not make the same footprint as the previous generation (this one rests on top of the sunroof that LUCKILY, I don't use) whereas the the previous one easily reached forward far enough to clear it. etrailer does not have a look-up feature for sizing for this product (at least not for a MB ML350 SUV). 4 Stars is actually generous.

by:

Significant reduction in wind noise. Wish I bought this ten years ago.

by:

Used on our GM rack on a Chevy Sonic Hatchback. I'd say the noise was a 6 pre air screen and it cuts it down to a 2. Very easy and simple to install

  • How To Decrease Roof Rack Wind Noise
A wind deflector like the AirScreen XT # TH82WV would work great for that! It will strap on the front bar of your roof rack system and will deflect that air up and over your sun roof. It will decrease the wind noise a significant amount!

  • Can I Use My Thule Surfboard Pads with My Thule AirScreen XT Fairing?
While we do have a great solution for you if you are set on using your AirScreen XT Fairing # TH82WV on your crossbars, you cannot use the Thule surf pads at the same time as your fairing. This is because the pads require full unobstructed access to the bars. With that being said, since the spacing of the clamps on the fairing are about 11" apart, this is plenty of room to attach a saddle-mount carrier like the Thule DockGrip # TH895. The cradles lift the kayak above the bars, so you...

  • Can I Use Thule Wind Fairing on 2021 Kia Telluride Factory Crossbars
The AirScreen XT for Thule Roof Racks- 44" # TH82WV or 52" # TH22WV hasn't been tested with factory crossbars, so you'll want to measure the dimensions of your bars- the # TH82WV was designed to fit on bars that are mostly 1-1/4" tall and 3-1/2" wide. If your factory bars aren't close to those it might be too loose of a fit, but typically factory crossbars are roughly similar to aero style crossbars in width so it'll be the height that you might find hardest to make work. You can measure...

  • Can Older Style Thule Wind Fairing Be Retro-Fitted with Newer Mounting Hardware for Aero Crossbars

Roof racks like the single roof rack system you installed on your 2005 Chevy Silverado like the part # TH75222479002 (x2), # THKIT1522 and discontinued crossbar do create a bit of wind noise.
