2021 Toyota Tacoma - Tekonsha Custom Wiring Adapter for Trailer Brake Controllers - Pigtail - Toyota

  • Trailer Brake Controller
  • Wiring Adapter
  • Wired to Brake Controller
  • Tekonsha
  • Vehicle Specific

Streamline the installation of your trailer brake controller with this custom adapter. Simply connect the wires of the harness to your brake controller and then plug the other end into the built-in harness behind your 's dash.

Features:

  • Pigtail wiring adapter eases installation of your electric trailer brake controller
  • Connector end plugs into the built-in port beneath the dash of your vehicle
  • Wire end connects to the wires on your brake controller with the included butt connectors
    • Compatible with time-delayed and proportional brake controllers from TrailerMate, Draw-Tite, and Tekonsha
  • Limited 1-year warranty

Installation of Tekonsha Brake Controller Adapter

To install your electric brake controller, you need to connect the wiring of the controller to your vehicle. Certain auto manufacturers offer pre-wired options, typically known as tow packages, wherein wiring is run for you from the dash to the trailer connector on the back of your vehicle. When this is done, a port is installed at your dash so that you can easily plug in a brake controller.

This adapter plugs into the connector behind your vehicle's dashboard. The exact location of the plug may vary depending on your year, make, and model of truck.

To hook this adapter up to your trailer brake controller, just connect the 4 wires of the harness - ground, power, brake switch, and brake power - to the corresponding wires on the brake controller. If your brake controller came with a plug built into its wiring harness, you will have to cut off the plug and connect to the wires themselves.

Tekonsha 3031-S wiring harness adapter used for 2020 Toyota Tacoma (with tow pkg)

Vehicle specific wiring harness that plugs into factory installed connection behind kick panel on driver’s side. Color coded wires match the colored wires from your chosen brake controller purchase. Can use butt connectors and vinyl tape (or shrink tubing) to join this harness to your controller wires. Do not plug into vehicle until these wires have been properly connected and insulated to avoid shorting out. This product simplified the wiring procedure and avoids damage to electrical system. Vehicle’s factory connector shown in this review. Great product!

Toyota Tacoma

This plug and play wiring adaptor for my Tacoma worked perfectly with the Redarc Tow Pro Elite I installed. My 2020 Tacoma was pre-wired with a factory plug, and the Tekonsha wiring harness plugged right in. I wired the pigtails to the Tow Pro Elite and we were fully operational.

by:

My Tacoma came with tow package but manufacturer doesn’t have an electric brake controller. I didn’t like the look of the after market ones until I checked etrailer. They carry The Redarc that tucks the controller under the dash with a nice looking, back lit , dial that fits in the dash with a factory finished look. Install was plug and play. Adding Roadmaster Helper springs really help to stabilize the Tacoma when towing my camp trailer, or when carrying loads in the bed of the truck.
Thanks etrailer.

by:

Etrailer is the only place to go to for anything towing related. I always research comprehensively before I make a new purchase - etrailer makes it simple by providing product information through videos on its website. The representative was not only very knowledgeable of products she was able to get the to Redarc tow pro elite brake controller to me in just a few days. I will only order from etrailer and I let anyone I know in the market for their products how awesome they are!

by:

This adapter plugged right in to my 2020 Tacoma’s existing OEM tow package connector, and I simply connected the red blue black and white wires to a RedArc brake controller.
Side note: The RedArc Elite V2 worked once and quit on me.
Called RedArc about a year later and they replaced it with the Version 3 under warranty.

2018 Toyota Tacoma

Installed same day as I received it. Went in smoothly and am anxious to try it on our
next camping trip. We just purchased a 2018 Toyota Tacoma w/trailing package -- 4 pin/7 pin connector, engine cooler, power steering cooler, etc. However, we were not told that Toyota had not made the wiring harness for the brake controller for the Tacoma (just the Tundra). Thank goodness, etrailer and Tekonsha stay on top of the market. Thanks again.

by:

As advertised.

by:
2022 Toyota Tacoma

This adaptor fit my 2022 tacoma truck perfectly and works fine.

by:
2020 Toyota Tacoma

This made wiring in my REDARC brake controller a breeze. My Toyota Tacoma already had its own harness and this made it simple to join the two together. Plenty of wire if you need it, I ended up trimming some.

by:

Product works as described, no issues with instructions and issues with the product.

working as expected for 1 yr.

by:
2020 Toyota Tacoma

This allowed the cleanest install for a brake controller that I found. Easy to install.

by:

Everything came in quickly and installed relatively easily. I just wish there was a suggested mounting spot for the controller under the dash and a suggested ground spot for my particular vehicle also.

by:
2020 Toyota Tacoma

Easy, accurate and heavy duty brake controller connector.

by:

Shipping was fast and affordable I purchased the switch mount and also the harness. After splicing the harness, installation was straightforward. The switch plate made for a professional appearance as well.

by:
2018 Toyota Tacoma

Did not fit 2018 Tacoma OEM port. Toyota changes the layout often so had to customize an open port for the Red Arc controller.

by:

Worked great. Etrailer staff are always helpful!!

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for a 2018 Toyota Tacoma
I recommend installing the Curt Class III trailer hitch # 75238 because it sits about 2" closer to the rearmost part of your bumper. This gives you more clearance for towing and using accessories. If you are going to be using it for towing you also need wiring and a ball mount kit. I recommend going with the Curt T-Connector # C56349 for a 4-Way Flat connector or the Tekonsha # 22117 if you need a 7-Way connector because we have found the Tekonsha wiring to be the most reliable. The 7-Way...

  • Can the Adapter # 3031-S be Used with the RedArc Tow Pro on a 2018 Toyota Tacoma
Yes, the Adapter Pigtail # 3031-S plugs in directly to the connector under the dash of your 2018 Toyota Tacoma and allows you to splice the open wires into the Redarc Tow-Pro # RED44FR. I have attached a review video and installation details for you to check out.

For vehicles with not much free space on the dash like your 2017 Toyota Tacoma we have a great solution. The Redarc Tow-Pro part # RED44FR installs with basically only a knob visible that can go virtually anywhere on your truck's interior. The module (brain) of the controller mounts out of site and the knob is what you'd use to control it. If you check out the picture I attached you'll see the knob pointed out. Hopkins only lists up to the 2012 Tundra for brake controller wiring harness # HM47815. What you could do for a Hopkins brake controller that requires a plug-in at the back is use harness # HM47685 to plug into the brake controller. Then use # 3031-S which is the end that plugs into the truck. Hardwire the bare wires together color for color and you have yourself a custom harness!

  • Recommended Wiring for Tow Package Activation on 2018 Toyota Tacoma
For your 2018 Toyota Tacoma, the best way to get your tow package wiring if you have the facoty 7-way is to use the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller # RED44FR along with wiring adapter # 3031-S. While we don't carry the Reese Brakeman the hookup for brake controllers is pretty much the same across the board, so you'd need to connect the white wire from the brake controller to the vehicle ground, the black from brake controller to the 12V power wire to your vehicle, the red wire from the brake controller to the stop light switch which you said you've already identified as the small purple wire, and the blue wire from the controller to the blue trailer brake wire on your vehicle. An 8 year old Prodigy would most likely have the 4 loose wires exiting the rear of the controller, in which case you'd use the # 3031-S wiring harness. The controller would wire to the harness color for color. If your Prodigy has the plug in the rear of it, you'd use the # 3031-P wiring harness. Did you use the install harness part # 3031-S which requires connecting the harness to the brake controller, or did you use the # 3031-P which connects from the back of the controller to the port under your truck's dash? • Is Wiring for the Tow Pro Elite the Same as Brake Controller Harness for 2015 Toyota Tundra
Yes. Brake controllers are one of the few times you can completely rely on wire color. The # 3031-S harness that fits your 2015 Toyota Tundra uses the same wire colors as the Redarc Tow Pro Elite, part # RED44FR; black for power, white for ground, red for input from the stop light switch, and blue for output to the trailer brakes.

Sure do! Tekonsha manufactures that brake controller for Raybestos, which we offer as part # 39510. In order to plug your pigtail equipped controller into the factory connector on your 2021 Toyota Tacoma, you'll need the # 3031-S wiring pigtail. The pigtail connects color for color to the wires exiting the rear of your controller, and would plug into the white connector which is located just above or behind the driver's side kick plate that sits next to your left foot when you're driving.

  • 2015 Toyota Tundra Brake Controller Installation Harness Recommendation
The difference between the # 3031-P and the 3031-S is that the 3031-P has a plug on the end of the harness to directly plug into a Tekonsha brake controller like the P2 # 90885. Whereas the 3031-S will also plug into the port of a 2015 Toyota Tundra and then would hardwire to a brake controller that has 4 blunt cut wires. Basically, if you have a Tekonsha brake controller you would need the # 3031-P and if you have any other brand controller you would want the # 3031-S.
