Installation of Tekonsha Brake Controller Adapter

This adapter plugs into the 6-pin connector in your vehicle's junction box. The box is located underneath the dash, to the left of the steering column.

To install your electric brake controller you need to connect the wiring of the controller to your vehicle. Certain manufacturers offer pre-wired options, typically known as tow packages, wherein these wires are run for you from the dash to the trailer connector on the back of your vehicle. Often, a brake controller wiring harness is included with your tow package. This harness plugs into a port beneath your dash and connects to the four wires of the brake controller. If, however, you have a brake controller with a plug in place of the four loose wires, you can use the Tekonsha adapter.

This adapter requires no hardwiring. It is designed to plug directly into your electric brake controller for the simplest installation possible. Because there are no wires to connect, installation is not permanent. You can unplug and remove your brake controller at any time and securely stow it away.

2015 Forest River Berkshire Motorhome

This is truly a plug and go on my 2015 Forest River Berkshire 400ql on the left side is the plug coming off the harness and you will need to remove the cover on the plug and the harness will plug right in the adapter is a perfect fit and plug right in to the controller took me about 10 min to install the blue plug end is what your looking for about 4” long of the harness tight fit but not to hard

Installed in 2013 Tiffin 38 RED Freightliner. Was as easy as you said, just plugged in with harness #3027-P.

OEM-quality product. Wires, plastic connectors, etc. seem identical to factory harness. Amy E. at eTrailer was great in helping me find the appropriate harness for my application. I wasn't sure if they'd be able to look it up so easily, but their systems are excellent - I told her I had a 2014 Fleetwood Discovery Class A diesel pusher, and she pulled up this p/n immediately. I technically could have used what I already had from prior owner, but I didn't like the butt-splices from the factory pigtail to the existing brake controller pigtail. For $15, it made sense to me to eliminate those splices and be "full factory." I used my terminal pin removal tool to remove 2 currently-unused stubs (key-on, and illumination?) from factory pigtail and transferred them to this new harness. That way, I have direct access to these OEM-supplied wires for any future accessories that may need them.

Still working like a champ a year later. Very please with this product.

by:

Did not plug into the supplied brake controller in the kit. Had to cut and splice all of the wires. Might as well have just sent a pigtail instead of an adapter harness.

This harness does install with the part # RED44FR but you have to cut off the black connector and then wire the colors to the brake controller wiring color for color. We dont have a Redarc connector that matches the Tekonsha, so this is the best option and still makes install much easier.

by:

Came in a day early! Exactly as described. It was suggested by other from a Forum and they were right. Plugged right in and easy to mount. I far from home and the person from etrailer walked through order and assured me I would get it drop at the park I was staying at. He was right and made it a day early. All tuned and ready to pull

by:

This wiring harness adapter was used to connect to my motorhome - Freightliner chassis wiring harness connector and my Tekonsha brake controller with a GM connector. It was a plug together and go! No cutting wires or personal adaption needed!!!!

No problems at all.

Works great! Product arrived fairly fast, although I paid for three day shipping and ordered it on a Thursday afternoon and got it the next Thursday.

by:

Have had this cable and Tekonsha controller in our RV for over a year. We put on roughly 10,000miles towing an enclosed trailer. This cable made the installation of the brake controller a breeze. I think the entire install took less than ten minutes.

by:

This adapter works great! Easy! Anyone could hook it up! The Tekonsha controller works great too! I pull a 24’ inclosed trailer with my race car in it, weighs 8,200 pounds behind a 32’ Winnebago Journey and couldn’t be happier! Thanks

by:

We were attending the rally in Sturgis SD and were trying to add a brake controller to our RV before leaving thru the mountains again. We determined the right wiring harness, and were recommended by Tekonsha to contact etrailer for the harness. I spoke with Stacey on the phone and explained the urgency of our need for this part. She made sure it got done ASAP and it actually arrived a day early! We had the controller installed and ready to go right on schedule.

Can't say enough about the service we received. Thanks etrailer and Stacey!!!

by:

I clicked on the button to attach to the factory connector (with Factory Tow Package) on the RV, and it added an adapter to the order. I did not see in the installation notes that you still needed to buy a second adapter to actually make it work. I would think that if you were going to create a package that connects to the factory tow package it would have everything you need. Based on the way this is built I would bet that there is no single adapter from Tekonsha that would function without a second adapter. Seems like a marketing strategy to get more money out of people. For me I paid about xx dollars for a x dollar connector and a few feet of wire, and I still had to do my own wiring. I would not recommend anyone to buy the adapter, it is truly a waste of money and will not do what you expect. Also if you decide to buy both adapters to make it work you are paying about $xx for about $xx in parts, about %xx of the cost of the unit just for a wire with connectors.

by:

Plug adapter works great and easy to hook up plug and play as they say.

2004 Freightliner XC-Series

Product was as described, well made, fit well and include more than enough wire length. NOTE: CHECK VEHICLE WIRING ... In my case the chassis wire connector was not wired properly. It did not match the chassis manufacturer's wiring diagram and sent the power to the wrong pin-out. Checking saved the controller.

2015 Winnebago Journey Motorhome

The product was an adaptor to connect a trailer controller to my Winnebago Itasca motorhome. It fit perfectly and was delivered very quickly. I have used etraier in the past and continue to be satisfied with their products and service.

Great tech advice and service. Installed a brake controller in my fleetwood RV inn15 minutes with adapters. No splicing, plug and play.

by:
2014 Freightliner XC Series

...the Tekonsha Controller cable construction is of OEM quality; well worth purchasing a pre-configured connector for fast connection to vehicle's mating connector.

by:

Just worked like they said it would pluged right in to Factory pigtail. Took more time to open package then to install . Thanks

by:

Very helpful in selecting the equipment I needed for my motorhome. I have purchase from etrailer numerous times and all my transactions have been a breeze. Great folks to deal with.

by:

etrailer is very reliable for getting the orders out in a timely manner. The website is very easy to navigate and there are always explanations about products so you can verify that you are getting the proper product for what you need.

  • Troubleshooting Lack of 12V Power to Electric Trailer Brake Controller on 2004 Freightliner XC
The Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers # 3027-P is the correct wiring harness for your 2004 Freighliner XC Chassis. I recommend removing the harness and testing the pin with a circuit tester like # PTW2993 where the black wire connects to give power to your brake controller. If you don't have power at that pin, then I recommend checking your owners manual for fuses and relays. Unfortunately we don't have wiring schematics or owners manuals for every vehicle,...

  • How to Connect Prodigy P3 Wiring to a Renegade Valencia RV on Freightliner S2RV Chassis
The Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter # 3027-P you referenced is designed for some of the older motorhome models so it doesn't surprise me that the plug doesn't match. With that being said, I'm not sure if you've found the correct wiring connector on your Freightliner S2RV Chassis either, since electric brake controllers only connect to 4 functions. We currently don't have a plug we know that matches your motorhome so I recommend using the universal pigtail that came with your P3 # 90195,...

From what I found online, the brake controller connector is located behind the steering column. If you're planning on using the Redarc # RED44FR Tow-Pro Elite brake controller you'd looked at, you'll need the # 3027-P harness as well as the # 331-TPH-017 adapter. Plug the # 3027-P into...
