Video Transcript for Lippert Components RV and Camper Steps LC301695 Review

Today, we're going to be taking a look at the replacement motor for an electric coach step. This replaces the 12 volt motor that came standard on your single, double, or triple electric Lippert coach step or Stromberg Carlson sliding step. This unit's designed to power the gear assembly that allows the step to extend and retract. It draws power directly from the RV battery which is going to allow it to bypass the electrical system. It simply installs underneath the base of your step with three bolts. Here's the mounting location for those bolts.

Those bolts are not included. The motor in the gear box assembly can be replaced by disconnecting the two pin connector from the module to the motor and then you'll need to remove the p clamp. That's going to be holding the harness to the motor mount. You'll also need to remove the ball joint linkage from the gear and remove a self tapping screw that holds the ground wire in place. Then you'll need to remove the three bolts that hold the motor mount to the step base. I do want to mention that care should be taken not to disturb the adjustment in the length of the ball joint linkage.

Then you simply install the new motor in reverse order. Really simple process. Only takes a few minutes to do. I do need to mention that you need to know that no adjustment is required. You will notice that this is a weather proof plug. It's got the snap lock designs once it's connected, snap lock together, and then it's got the jacketing that goes over the wires.

It's going to keep those safe and protected. That's going to do it for today's look at the replacement motor for an electric coach step. Again, this replaces the 12 volt motor that came standard on your single, double or triple electric Lippert coach step or Stromberg Carlson sliding step.

After a year the drive motor us still working fine. Original installation was fairly easy, except the mounting holes did not exactly line up. I had to enlarge one of them in order to get it to align.

Still working great. No issues at all. Definitely recommend as a replacement for the OEM stair motor.

by:

The product arrived in good time and was the exact part I had ordered. It was manufactured by the same as the orginal. It took me about an hour to replace after I had the old one out. Depending how mechanical you are it may take less or more. I have work as a maintnence man for years but this was simple. I advise if you do it yourself watch for the spacer for the motor that you don't lose any. One goes on each side of the motor. The allen on the the fixed gear on the frame has to be loosen to take off the old and to replace the new. Thank etrailer.com your product and price was great. I hope not to have to repair anything else but will be sure to check with you for parts. Thanks Again.

I finally did hear back from Lippert. They advised that sometimes holes do need to be drilled out to make this fit. It is the only motor from this brand of steps for this Coach.

by:

Motor and Bolt pattern were correct.
Had
to drill out the holes. My RV had 6mm bolts and the motor holes appeared to be for 5mm clearance. Had to clamp the motor in a vice so it wouldn’t get away from me.
Note to others, pay attention to the linkage orientation before disconnecting. Take a picture before.
Steps are working very smoothly now.

by:

Thanks for the quick shipment!

by:

I was not pleased to find that the bolt holes had to be drilled out to 1/4" in order to use the original bolts that had to be reused.
Other than that, it fit and worked perfectly.

While traveling, my motor coach steps motor failed. I found the part on Amazon.

I decided to call etrailer anyway because I have dealt with them in the past and found their customer service to be first rate. I am very happy for that decision.

etrailer, price matched Amazon. No big deal there. However, the part did not arrive as expected. I tracked it via UPS tracking and it showed the part as delivered. It was delivered, to the wrong house! I am quickly running out of time and UPS is not answering the phone. Out of desperation I called etrailer at 8:00 PM and Tammie answered! After business hours Tammie contacted UPS via their contact information. Within a few minutes the UPS supervisor and driver had contacted me.

It was determined that the part got dropped off at the wrong address. etrailer immediately sent out a replacement part and settled up with UPS on their end.

What service.

Part arrived and all is well.

I would definitely order from them again.

Still working fine.

by:

I purchased a replacement motor for a Lippert Electric Coach Step (part # 301695) could not complete the installation because the part had a manufacturing defect in that the original bolts would not fit into the motor's bolt holes because the bolt holes were too small. etrailer has recieved complaints of this same issue since at least January 2021 and yet they still choose to sell and send a defective part to me. I was given the option to return the item for a refund... however I took a risk and drilled out the bolt holes on the motor with a 1/4" drill bit and then was able to complete the installation. The motor worked just fine and my steps are working properly.

Steps are working great!

by:

The primary gear on the Kwiki power step needed replacing. The original motor was still operating.but it was noisy. After 13 years of use it needed replacing. The new motor was installed but was defective. A second motor was sent by etrailer and it has been operating perfectly. Etrailer replaced the defective motor without any questions.

Flawless! I am very pleased with the purchase

by:

The motor looked identical but the mounting bolt holes were in the wrong place to mount to my Newmar RV. etrailer was excellent in accepting the return and providing me a credit. Have not ordered a replacement yet.

by:

Step motor worked perfectly! Steps didnt work that good when the MH was new ! Although under warranty back then, all they would do is grease the pivot points and blame it on the chinese!
Best part of this venture was dealing with Barb at Lippert and another parts man, who guided me to the correct motor , and putting me through to etrailer where Geoff also confirmed what I needed, and shipped it immediately.
I dont have a picture to share, but, instead of the steps ,when retracted, staying up, would jiggle down about half way. Now they quietly retract and stay up. I'm keeping both Lippert and etrailers phone # on speed dial. Thanks folks

~ One year ago, I received the replacement motor for my Lippert Electric Coach Step. The motor that I received was correct. I installed the motor on my Tiffin Class A Breeze electric step, and it has worked fine since then. No complaints.

by:

I purchased this electric step rv motor thru e trailer for about 30 percent less than any place else!??. They shipped it to me in two days , as camping world told me it would be two weeks to get it !!! Quality products & great service !????

by:

I’ve used etrailer several time and I’ve always been extremely pleased

by:

I had trouble finding the replacement motor for my electric steps on my 1996 Southwind. They are Kwikee Step series 32, I was told that Kwikee no longer made the motor. But the Stromberg Carlson motor SP 1636669 was the direct replacement. It took less than an hour to do the job.

by:

I had to drill out the mounting holes to use the original bolts to mount the motor to the original holes. When I was done and checked the operation it ran great and was very quiet.

Robert

3/14/2022

Very well.It is very quite.

by:

The motor runs fine, but the bolt holes were too small diameter for the OEM bolts. I had to drill the holes to a larger diameter. The hole alignment was also not correct to match the original pattern. Drilling the holes larger gave enough tolerance to align the motor to tighten down. I hope I did not buy Chinese junk.

This is a universal product for Lippert Coach electric sliding steps. So it is a general fix to all the single, double, or triple Lippert Steps. For that reason, some modification may be needed.

by:

Great customer service. I've ordered parts from etrailer before and they're always very helpful. Lindy originally helped me with the order and it was shipped right on time. I had to call back with a question and Nichole was very eager to assist. Only issue I had was the holes in the motor for the mounting bolts were to small. I had to drill them out a little but then installed easily. Worked better than the original part.

by:

I purchased this motor from etrailer, with their price match pledge. They were great to deal with, as always, and the product arrived quickly and works great.

REPLACEMENT NOTE: I replaced the original step motor, (#300-1406) on my Lippert Double Coach Step, (#128980) with this new step motor, (#LC301695). Per Lippert, this is the correct motor, however, I had to ream out the 3 mounting holes as the original mounting bolts would not fit through the slighter smaller holes in the new casting. Not a big deal, but know this ahead of time so you are prepared with a drill/bits to complete the job.

by:

I have recently purchased a tow bar and a electric motor for the power steps on my motorhome and have been extremely happy with both products. Very quick turnaround of product when ordered and better price than most competitors online.Free shipping was also a bonus!! Will definitely look here first when I need something else.

by:

My name is Mario, just wanted to let you know the electric motor for the electric steps on my rv arrived on time and I just finished installing it. Everything is now working normal again.
Thank you for an outstanding customer service experience.
I would recommend your products and service .

The replacement part was an exact replacement for mine that went bad. Worked well one time and then stopped. Checked and the control module went out! Have to order module now for steps to work? Will review further after module replacement. If steps work.

  • Replacement Step Motor for Lippert Steps with Motor 300-1406
This definitely sounds like the motor on your Lippert steps going out, especially with what you're seeing when retracting the steps. • Replacement Motor and Controller for 2005 Forest River Lexington Motorhome Step
I was able to find some information on your 2005 Forest River Lexington Motorhome online. Your motorhome came with Lippert Coach steps so the replacement motor you asked about is # LC301695. The motor is likely the culprit if movement is the issue, but if it is simply not staying in place then the controller # LC301702 is more likely the part needing replaced. The controller is the brains of the operation so if it is not communicating properly, the controller is the issue.

  • Lippert Replacement Coach Step Motors
The problem you describe with your coach's Lippert electric step system sounds like an issue with the motor. When the step has extended fully the motor's current draw increases and this condition is supposed to be detected by the control module which will then shut off power. If the motor goes bad it will not draw that higher current and the control module will not be able to sense that the step is fully extended. This is why the motor heats up; the module does not get the required high-current...

Since there are quite a few out there it's hard to know what you might have on your Supreme. If you watch the steps when they are having a problem do you hear any noises or can you see anything out of the ordinary like a gear not engaging etc.?
