Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Gorilla-Lift tailgate lift assist for utility trailers. So right off the bat, the whole point of this, what it's going to accomplish, is make it much easier to open and close your tailgate back here. A lot of times these can be pretty heavy and cumbersome. We actually have a relatively small trailer today but a lot of the bigger ones out there seems to be pretty heavy, especially if you use this for work, lawn care, something like that, you're up and down all day. And so it just puts just enough tension on this to essentially you can pretty much close it or or drop it with one finger. more

This EZ Gate Tailgate Assist will help reduce physical strain when you're lifting or lowering your heavy trailer tailgate. Basically on the inside of this tube is a spring-loaded mechanism which will mount to the trailer side-rail, and it uses these three mounting brackets when you install it. It is designed to work on most standard open trailers with either round or square tubing. This allows you to easily lower your tailgate on your truck so that you don't have to worry about any kind of injuries or having too many things in your hand and you're trying to lower that down gently, and it just often wants to kind of slam down. So by putting this in place, it's going to let that tailgate gradually open so we can just operate it with one hand and it will come down, and it'll make loading and unloading our truck bed a lot easier. Whenever we go to get in the back of our truck, opening and closing the tailgate can be a hassle, especially on a truck like this where it's all steel. This can be extremely heavy. With our Lift Assist, not only is it going to help lower it down, but the real benefit we're going to get out of it is when we go to close it. What used to be a two-handed job where we might have to even bend over a little bit to get enough oomph to lift it up, I can lift this tailgate with two fingers, and it feels like there's almost nothing there.Now, our Lift Assist is going to accomplish that because it's going to use this torsion bar. Today we're going to be taking a look at part number GL-1. This is the gorilla lift utility trailer tailgate lift assist. It's a two-sided tailgate assist, which is a little bit different compared to other tailgate assists out on the market. It's going to attach to both side rails on a trailer, and it's actually a benefit because it's going to prevent the trailer gates from warping or the hinges from wear from uneven stress. So actually having it installed on both sides is a great benefit because it's going to extend or it can extend the life of the trailer gate. This unit, once installed, is going to reduce the lifting force that's necessary to lift or lower the tailgate, so it can be raised and lowered with virtually no effort. Makes it very lightweight, very easy to operate, and very simple to do. more

Rackem Double Barrel Trailer Tailgate Assist Installation- Video
Today on our utility trailer, we'll be installing the Rackem Double Barrel trailer gate assist, part number RA-27C. To begin with, we will need to go ahead and mark the four holes that we'll need to drill in our trailer, two in the gate where our chain will hook to the support bracket for lifting the gate up and down, and two on the actual side rail of the trailer. Once we have all four holes marked, we'll go ahead and begin drilling. The two gate holes will be a little bit smaller, and we can go ahead and just drill them straight through. Now for the section that has the springs in it that will mount to the side of our trailer, we're going to go ahead and start with the smaller drill bit first, and then go ahead and step up to the actual size. With all the holes drilled, we'll go ahead and mount the double spring mechanism on the side of the trailer. more
