Alright today on this 2004 Ford E450 thats an RV, were going to install a brake controller part number 90915. We will be using an adapter cord 3035-P, and on the back of the vehicle well be using 4 pole to 7 pole adapter part number 37185, and also a bracket to hold everything together 118140, and with these parts well fill in the gaps that are missing on part of this tow package. Okay we are going to start off by working on the rear of the RV and working our way forward. What we are going to do is actually remove the 5 pole connector that is located on the hitch right now. Were going to disconnect that and add a new connector to the back of the vehicle, and that part number will be adapter part number 37185, and we will also be using an adapter bracket part number 118140, and we will start with that part. This is the adapter bracket; we are going to mount to the bottom by clamp to hold it in place. more

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2002 Toyota Tundra

Today on this 2002 Toyota Tundra, were going to install the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller, part number 90885, and we are also going to use the install kit part number ETBC7. So our first step involved is to go ahead and remove the factory four pole wiring harness, and we are going to mount our 7 pole bracket to that. There are two screws we are going to remove right here, remove the bracket from the four pole as well. Were going to remove the two Phillip screws to free up the bracket from the four pole, there is one here and one on the other side. Now our 7 pole bracket just barely misses the two mounting holes on the factory bracket, so what we are going to do is actually drill these out to 3/8ths of an inch. They will get pretty thin on the side here, but it will be enough to hold everything together, it will be almost factory when we are done. more

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2009 Dodge Ram 1500

Today we are going to install the Tekonsha Primus IQ brake controller on a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500. We will also be using the Tekonsha wire harness, part number 3020-P. The Primus IQ is a proportional style brake controller. It sense how hard or how softly you are braking in the vehicle and sends the proper voltage to the trailer brakes so the whole braking action is smooth and even. It features a digital LED display and also has three levels of boosts to increase or decrease the trailer braking power as needed. It can be mounted between 0 degrees and 70 degrees nose up. And it is covered by a limited lifetime warranty. In the packaging for the brake controller, you will find the brake controller itself, as well as a fixed black plastic mounting bracket and a black metal bracket that we will not be using. You will also find a packet of screws for attaching the bracket to the vehicle and the controller to the bracket, as well as a generic harness with loose wire ends. But since we have our custom fit harness today, we will not be using that wiring. Let us head to the vehicle. 1:13 more

Today on this 2010 Dodge Nitro we are going to install brake controller part number 90885 from Tekonsha. This is their Prodigy P2 brake controller. And to install this, we are going to use part number ETBC7. The first thing we need to do is go ahead and take the bracket from the ETBC7 kit. We are going to install that on to the bracket that is on the hitch. The next step is to go ahead and do some partial assembly on the 7-pole itself. What we will do is we will go ahead and add the gray cable that comes with the kit and we will hook it up to our 7-pole connector. What we are going to do is actually just wind this up in electric tape and leave our leads out that we need. We are going to leave our 4-pole sticking out and we are going to need our brake wire which is going to be blue and out black wire for 12 volt power supply. And then we will just wrap up our purple and white wires. Our white wire is going to go directly to the frame for ground. And then the purple wire is going to be for reverse lights if it is ever needed. And to our black and blue wires we are going to install the grey cable that has the black and white wires inside of it. What we are going to do is just peel away the grey sheath. Then stripe our wires back and make our connections: black to black and white to blue. Cover those up with some electric tape. Next we will go ahead and install the loom along the wires like this. 1:20 more

This is the bracket that comes with the ETBC7 kit. It is going to be a tight fit but I think we can sneak it on there using the existing bolt holes. Right here is the port that we need to plug into. That is kind of hard to get the wire harness in there and plug it in so you can use a screwdriver or a trim panel tool like we are using and just pop it up a little bit, get underneath of it and pop it loose so you can get a better angle at it. Today on this 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer with factory installed tow package we are going to be installing the Tekonsha P3 brake controller part number 90195. The first thing I want to note before we do our installation is what exactly the factory 7-pole looks like on the back of the Trailblazer that is going to indicate whether or not this vehicle has the wires underneath the dash to hook the brake controller into. Looking at the rear bumper area here you can see the factory installed 7-pole is kind of underneath mounted at an angle and again it is mounted to the factory hitch as well. On the lid itself there is the GM logo printed on it, that is a kind of cut and dry indicator right there as well. If you have the factory 7-pole you will have the wires under the dash to hook your brake controller to, if you do not you are likely going to have to do a manual hardwire of the brake controller and you will need to purchase some other components. 00:50 more

And we can just tuck that out of our way and maybe zip-tie it later. The next part we have to do is run our power wires to the brake controller. The easiest way to do it, honestly, is to go straight to the battery. You do not have to worry about any unnecessary connections. That being said, battery terminals do corrode over time. That could end up losing the connection due to corrosion that way. That being said that batteries do corrode which can lead to problems connecting to the brake controller, another way, that is not recommended by the manufacturer but it could be done technically, you could come off of this post here which is supplied by a 30 amp fuse. And then what you could do is come off here, go to your 20 amp reset breaker, so there is still a fuse with the right amperage, and make your connections here for the positive. And you could run your connection all of the way up to, say like this battery here, has a connection to the frame or to the body. You could probably make your connection there. Because, sometimes you run into a situation where the connections are already corroded up and it is probably not in the best interest to go ahead and take them apart again and redo them because you might have a bigger headache that you are not prepared to deal with. You could probably do it that way. In this case, I think we will go ahead and use this battery here. This truck actually has two batteries set up. 1:09 more

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2000 Chevy Silverado Part 2

The wires are ran from the rear to the front. However, they are pretty much out of reach. They are actually buried right down below the brake booster here. The blue and orange wires are kind of coiled up there. Basically, you have to climb on top of the engine, reach down and break them loose and pull them up. And even so, half of the time they are not long enough to work with. So you have to extend them, especially for the blue wire anyway. All right, the next thing that I am going to do, since we are here, is go ahead and hook up our hot lead. Basically, you can use either one of these posts. I believe these two fuses take care of the power going to these posts. And they fit in the little pocket there. They do not come with any nuts on here. So, you will have to go out and get you some metric 10 millimeter nuts to fit this stud. You will have to get this nut separate, from the hardware store. And it is an 8 millimeter nut in thickness and diameter. And the thread pitch is 1.25. 0:46 Put that on there for now. Next what we need to do is go underneath the dash and drill out a hole to get between the engine compartment and the dashboard. 0:55 more

Today we are going to install part number 90195 from Tekonsha, the P3 Brake Controller. We are also going to install along with it part number ETBC7. And this will all be installed on a 1996 Ford Explorer. To begin our install, we are actually going to start with the rear of our vehicle and then work our way forward. First off, we are going to install our bracket that actually holds our 7-pole in place. There are substitute brackets that you can use that this will go onto and mount onto the hitch tube itself. However, this particular 7-pole does not really work that good you have to get some extra-long screws and make new holes in the bracket. But in this case, it makes things a little easier and probably a little bit nicer. So we will go ahead with this bracket here that comes factory with it. We will drill out a half-inch hole, which will work perfect with the carriage bolt with a half-inch square hole in the bottom of the bumper. And we will end up with the bracket about right there. We have got our bracket in a bench vise and we will go ahead and put in a quarter-inch pilot hole first and follow it with a half-inch bit. We will our bolt into the bumper and then we will go ahead and install our bracket. And then we will put on the nut and then tighten it down and use an extra hand to hold the bracket while you tighten down the nut and bolt. Today we are going to cover a frequently asked question. It really turns up a lot. And actually it is easier than you think. Just to give you a reference point, this is the top, right here of the gas pedal, so basically its across up on this pillar here. While were here well plug in our brake controller adapter and that will be part # 3035-P. Now we can plug the other end of this into our brake controller after we install the mounting bracket. Next well mark our bracket for positioning, well just hold it up here on this bottom edge where its nice and flat. In this corner right here, well just make a small dot for reference and then well put our first screw there. Afterwards well put our brake controller inside and eyeball it to make sure we get it straight. When we have positioned the way we want it, we ll make our secondary screw install here. Okay at this point we can simply install our adapter cable in then well just mount right here. We have the brake controller installed now, the last thing we do is take the wires and zip tie them into a safe position and all we have to do is test. more

Today we are going to install on a 2007 Toyota Tundra and we will be installing the brake controller part number 39519 the Tekonsha Prodigy. We will also be using part number 3040-p from Tekonsha which lets you plug into the factory tow package in the vehicle. We begin our install by finding a spot to mount our bracket onto. Just go ahead and put it up there and see if you like it as a nice place to put a brake controller. It should give you a pretty good idea of how it fits. Makes sure you can access the thumb wheel on top. Seeing the LED screen is equally important. Now that you know it is in the correct position you can go ahead and mark the holes before you drill them. Now we will go ahead and drill out our holes after we have marked them. more
