Brake Controller Recommendation for a 2015 Ford Transit 250

Question:

Need a Ford brake controller for a 2015 commercial Transit 250 full size van. Van has a heavy duty trailer towing option but no controller, I believe the wiring is in place already for the controller.

We don't carry Ford brake controllers, but we do carry aftermarket brake controllers that will work well in your 2015 Ford Transit 250. I spoke with my contact at our brake controller manufacturer and he was unaware of there being a brake controller port on your vehicle so he said the vehicle would have to be hardwired for a brake controller. First you will need to start with a 4-way if you do not have one.

For that you will need part # C56327.

From there you would need to convert the 4-way to a 7-way so that you can install the brake controller. For that you will want the Brake Controller Install Kit and 7-Way Adapter part # ETBC7. I attached installation instructions and an install video for this product as well.

Now if you have a 7-way already you would just need to wire it up so that your controller would work with it.

First let's start with a brake controller. I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup.

Next, for a wiring kit to install the brake controller and the 7-way adapter you would want the Wiring Kit for 2 and 4 Brake Electric Brake Controllers # 5506. This will provide the power source and ground for the wiring for the brake controller. You will need to test the wires from the brake pedal switch of your vehicle to find a circuit that has voltage when the brakes are applied and none when not applied. This will be the circuit you will run the red wire to.

Finally you will need to run a length of 10 gauge wire (part # 10-1-1) from the brake output circuit of the controller to the brake output circuit of the 7-way (blue wire). The # 10-1-1 is sold by the foot so you will need to order a quantity of the amount of feet you will need.

I attached an FAQ on installing brake controllers for you to check out.
