Comparing and Contrasting the P3 and Prodigy Brake Controllers
Question:
What is better or different about these two controllers? I will be towing about a 8000lb toy hauler with a 2006 3/4 ton suburban. Is the P3 the newest model? I have friends who have a prodigy and are very pleased.

Both of these brake controllers are made by Tekonsha and are high rated and popular models. The main difference between the two is that the P3 can be used with both electric brakes and electric over hydraulic brakes and can easily switch between the two systems as needed. It also has an LCD display and is supposed to be able to troubleshoot problems in the system. Basically, if you want more features, pick the P3.
The main selling point for the Prodigy P2, # 90885 is that it does not require manual leveling and it can be mounted completely vertical to completely horizontal. If you want a basic and reliable brake controller, pick the Prodigy P2. This controller will also support electric over hydraulic braking systems.
Both brake controllers are proportional controllers. And both will work for what you intend to tow. I have included a links to the instructions and videos for both controllers.
