Troubleshooting Brake Controller Installation

With a test light the blue brake wire lights up but when you step on brake pedal and test its real dim

It sounds like there is something wired incorrectly for your brake controller. If you have a proportional brake controller like part # TK90160, it should show no current on the blue wire unless you use the manual override, or if the vehicle was moving and you step on the brake.
I have attached a helpful article that shows how to install a brake controller from scratch. The installation instructions for the # TK90160 are also attached.
There will be 4 wires coming out of the brake controller, or out of the connector attached to the back of the brake controller. The black wire is to be routed to your 12-volt power source. The white wire should be grounded to a clean metal surface. The blue wire is routed to the 7-way connector at the rear of your vehicle. The red wire is connected to the cold side of the brake stop light switch located near the top of the brake pedal. It will only have current when the brake pedal is pressed.
