Adding a 7-Way and Brake Controller to a 2014 Jeep Wrangler Sport
Question:
I need to add a 7 pin blade wiring for my Jeep Sport to pull a Cricket Trailer w/ brakes. What do I need? How easy? Can I do it myself? Do I need a brake adjuster controller? I already have a Jeep with 4 pin and factory tow package. I need to be able to charge trailer battery from TV while driving.

Since your 2014 Jeep Wrangler Sport already has a 4-Way connecter in order to add a 7-Way you will need # ETBC7. This will allow you to hardwire in a 7-Way and a brake controller, which will be needed to activate electric trailer brakes.
You could perform this installation yourself, it would not be all that difficult. It just takes time. For example it would take a professional installer about 2 hours or so to complete the installation including the brake controller. I have included some links to the right that explain the installation for you.
For a brake controller I recommend the P2, # 90885, because it is easy to set up and use and it is reliable.
The 12 volt circuit on a trailer connector can only provide a maintenance charge to a trailer mounted battery. It will not charge up the battery unless it is a small breakaway system battery. If it is a regular car-sized battery the 12 volt circuit will keep the battery from discharging but will not charge it up.
