Brown is normally running lights and yellow is normally left turn and brake lights. Check the back of the light assembly where the wires go into it. There should be some indication of the wire functions. If you got the light from us if you can tell me the part number I can determine the wire functions.
Since there is no real standard for trailer wire color and function, you would need to go by the back of the light.
