Ball Mount Rattles Around A Lot in Curt Trailer Hitch on a 2014 Ford Explorer
Question:
I bought the Curt trailer hitch for my 2014 Ford Explorer and it was as easy to install as you say it is. Thanks for all the great info! My question is about the ball mount. I purchased a standard Reese ball mount kit from WalMart. When I put it in my new hitch it seems as if the hitch is too big. When pulling a trailer the ball mount moves inside the hitch and makes a lot of noise. Is there a specific ball mount that has to be used with the Curt receiver?

There isn't a specific ball mount that you have to use with Curt hitch # C13386 for your 2014 Ford Explorer. You will just need one that is designed for a 2 inch hitch receiver and that allows you to tow the trailer level.
The issue that you are experiencing is common. It is because the shank of the ball mount has to be smaller than the 2 inch receiver opening. Otherwise it would be difficult to install and remove the ball mount.
To eliminate as much of the movement as possible you can use an anti-rattle device # 63232 which is also a hitch lock. I have linked a video review of this product to the right.
I have also included a link to the right to our help article that explains how to choose the correct ball mount to tow the trailer level. And finally I have included a link to the ball mount main page for you.
