Installing Upgraded Modulite Vehicle Wiring Harness Kit # C59496 on 2012 Toyota Prius

For your 2012 Toyota Prius Plug-In, you will need to use a hardwired converter like the Upgraded Modulite Vehicle Wiring Harness Kit, # C59496. The converter will tap into the factory wiring harnesses for your taillight assemblies. The best place to tap the wiring in would be directly behind the taillight assemblies on your Prius. You will want to use the circuit tester included in the kit to test the wires going into each taillight assembly to determine the function of each circuit.

You can start by activating the left turn signal and test the wires for the left taillight. Using the point on the end of the tester, pierce the insulation of each wire so that the probe touches the copper wiring inside. When you find the wire that illuminates the tester, use one of the included wire taps to tap the yellow wire on the wiring harness into that circuit. Then turn on the running lights and repeat the wire function testing process. When you locate the correct wire, tap the brown wire into that circuit. Have someone pump the brake pedal and once that circuit is located, tap the red wire into it. Ground the white wire to a clean metal surface on the vehicle and then run the green wire across to the passenger side. Turn on the right turn signal, and repeat the testing to locate the correct wire and then tap the green wire into that circuit.
