Trailer Wiring Harness for 2000 Toyota Tacoma Shows 11.1 Volts at 4-Way Trailer Connector

Question:

118379 Wiring harness for 2000 toyota tacoma. Have 11.1 VDC between ground and brown pins, no voltage on next two as is normal Im guessing-bounces accordingly with both signals, seperate pins. Is 11.1 VDC sufficient current for the trailer. I have no lights, but wiring by tongue is somewhat damaged and ground white was severed. I wire nutted to try and test but no change. Any info could be helpful, thinking running new wire segment from tongue to lights. BUt wanted to make sure power out of the harness on towside sounds good.

The 11.1 volts seems a smidge low since you should still be near 12 volts at the 4-Way. You can try moving the ground wire for the converter to a different location. Grounding it by itself and not to a shared ground location works best. Make sure it is attached to a clean and corrosion free bare metal surface with no paint or undercoating.

If the main trailer side connector ground is not attached to the trailer frame then the circuit cannot be completed and you would not have any lights on the trailer. I definitely do recommend repairing the damaged wiring before plugging the trailer in again. Otherwise it could short out the converter box in wiring harness # 118379 on your 2000 Toyota Tacoma.
