Recommended Hitch Mount Bike Carrier For 2006 Mini Cooper S Convertible
Question:
Hello, I like the Rola TX-103 but it wont work on a 1 1/4inch Class 1 receiver. I have a 2006 Mini Cooper S Convertible with a tow hitch that is Class 1. Is there a way to adapt this rack to work? The Swagman rack requires removing the bikes to tilt and the Saris is more expensive as are its accessories. Thanks for your time. Best regards,

Since your 2006 Mini Cooper S Convertible is limited to a Class l hitch, you would not be able to use the Rola TX-103 bike rack, part # 59403. Class l hitches are limited to carriers that can hold 2 bikes only.
Although some accessories will fit a hitch on a vehicle, it is never recommended to use an item that is not rated for the hitch, and modifying any hitch accessory could be a safety concern and certainly void any warranty on the item.
The bike rack I recommend for your Mini is the Thule Camber 2 part # TH9058. This is a 2 bike carrier and has the same features as the TX-103 you referenced, like being able to tilt the rack to allow access to the rear cargo area of the vehicle. I have attached a product review video you can check out.
If you are planning on carrying any bikes with alternative frames like kids bikes or women's bikes, I recommend using an adapter bar like part # 64005. This attaches between the seat post and the handlebar stem and holds the bike level in the carrier while providing additional ground clearance. I have attached a product review video for the adapter bar.
