Towing a non-SS 2010 Chevy HHR Behind a Motor Home
Question:
Hi! will the HHR SS baseplate work on a non SS HHR?

Expert Reply:
No, the Chevy HHR and HHR SS are fundamentally different were the base plates install so you would not be able to use the SS base plates, # 523159-1, on a non-SS model. I have verified this with my contact at Roadmaster.
For a non-SS model you would use base plates # 3141-1. For a compatible tow bar I recommend the Falcon 2, # RM-520, and safety cables # RM-643.
For lighting you can use a magnetic lighting kit # RM-2120. Or for a more permanent solution you can use diode kit # RM-154. In either case it looks like you will need to pull a fuse to flat tow your 2010 HHR. Consult the vehicle owners manual to confirm. To make this as easy as flipping a switch you can use fuse bypass # RM76511.
And finally, most states now require supplemental braking on the vehicle being flat towed. One of the easiest systems to set up and use is the Even Brake proportional system # RM-9400. It will apply the HHR brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the easiest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.
For the braking system to work properly you will also need a stop light switch kit # RM-751428 and 12 volt outlet kit # RM-9332.
Be sure to consult your HHR owners manual for specific information on flat towing the vehicle. I have also included some helpful links to our series of help articles on flat towing for you.
