Adapting a 6-Way Square Jayco Trailer Connector to 7-Way on Vehicle

Question:

Hello, Ive read and seen the option for plugging in the 6 square to a 4 prong flat but I want to be able to charge my battery while driving so Im looking to go from the 6 square on the camper to the 7 round without dropping down to a 4 flat, which would only give me basic trailer light functions. Is this possible?

The easiest thing to do would be to replace the 6-Way square on the Jayco trailer with a 7-Way, # PK12706.

You can adapt the 6-Way Jayco to the 7-Way on your vehicle. But it will take a little bit of work. First, you will need 6-Pole Square Trailer Wiring Connector Kit # 37995 because the Jayco square plug doesn't fit any other 6-Way square. This part has both the vehicle end and the trailer end which will both be needed.

Then you will need a trailer side 7-Way such as # PK12706. The wires on the vehicle end of the 6-Way will attach to the back of this 7-Way connector.

On your trailer you will have to remove the 6-Way and install the new trailer side 6-Way from the kit. Once this is completed you will have made your own adapter!

The wiring part might be tricky. You can't go by wire color since there isn't a standard. You have to go by function. I have included a link to the right to an article that shows the different functions of different trailer connectors for you.
