Hitch and Platform Bike Rack Recommendation for 2015 Subaru Outback
Question:
Hello, I am looking for a platform bike rack that will hold two bikes with fenders. I will be mounting it on a 2015 Subaru Outback. I do not have a hitch or the car yet. One of the bikes is a ladys cruiser style with a steeply sloping top tube. The other bike will be a mans touring bike. Do you have suggestions? Of course, light weight is a plus. And that ability to access the rear hatch is a must. Thanks

The first thing that we need to look at is a hitch for the 2015 Subaru Outback Wagon. I recommend going with the Draw-Tite Class III, # 75673. This hitch bolts directly to the frame of the Outback with no welding required.
As for a platform bike rack, my personal favorite is the Thule Doubletrack Pro XT Bike Rack, # TH92BJ. This lightweight rack works with cruisers and bikes with fenders and will allow you to access the rear cargo area when bikes are unloaded. Clearance is important and I have included an article that illustrates how to take this measurement.
Since you plan on carrying a woman's bike with a steeply sloping top tube, I recommend using an adapter bar like the Swagman Easy-Out, # 64005. This bar attaches between the seat post and the handlebar stem making it easier to secure the bike in the carrier.
I have attached a couple videos for you to check out.
