Weight Distribution / Sway Control System That Will Fit A V-Nose Trailer
Question:
I have a 2007 7x12 Haulmark V-Nose Low Hauler Motorcycle Trailer. This trailer, due to the V-Nose, has a short tounge. Will this unit be adaptable to this trailer type? If not is there a unit that would? My problem is not as much sway but more in the need for weight distribution. I have a 2004 Acura MDX and the trailer loaded with a Motorcycle and gear squats it down 2 to 3 inches. At night I get bright lighted a lot and feel bad because I am causing other drivers problems. I would like to have both weight distribution and sway control features if I purchase a unit. I also have a 1987 Chevorlet Silverado longbed pickup that I would use it on also. The big question is will these type of units fit a V-Nose trailer with a shorter tounge length due to the V-Nose protrusion. The trailer weights 2200 pounds and is a double axel unit. My motorcycle, tools, and other gear probably weights another 1200 pounds. I try to load as much as I can over the two axels or in that general area but the motorcycle has to load in the forward area toward the front of the trailer which puts more weight on the tounge. Its not a heavy load by most standards but is still enough to squat things down. I have a standard 2 inch hitch reciever on both vechiels and the trailer uses a 2-5/16 ball.

Yes, the Strait-Line Weight Distribution Hitch System can be adapted to a V-Nose style trailer. You would need to use an alternate mounting system for the chain hanger brackets. The Bolt on Chain Hanger Kit, item # RP58305, will bolt onto the side of trailer frame. Once installed the chains are attached by raising the trailer tongue and rear of vehicle with the trailer jack. Tubular frames cannot be wider than 2-1/4 inches with this hanger kit, so you will need to be sure and measure before purchasing.
Once this system is installed you will be able to adjust the system for either the truck or the Acura so that the headlights are aimed in the proper direction and the vehicle and trailer are being towed in the desired, level, position. The sway control feature is the best on the market and works to keep sway from happening rather than trying to stop it after it has began.
I would recommend the Reese Strait-Line Hitch 600 lbs TW / 12,000 lbs GTW, item # RP66072, for the weights that you have listed. To complete this kit you will need the Chain hanger kit mentioned above, a 2-5/16 inch hitch ball with 1-1/4 inch shank, item # 19286, and a Weight Distributing Shank, item # AMAC1.
