Hitch and Wiring Installation on 2007 Lexus RX350 With Factory Towing Prep Package
Question:
Folks, Im getting ready to install a trailer hitch on my 2007 Lexus RX350 FWD. The SUV includes the $160 towing prep package. Can I presume that the factory installed towing package has the wiring plug that brings the necessary 4 wires to connect to a 4 wire connector, your part 18002? I dont want to diginch down to that point until I have the parts needed to install the wiring. I see from your video that I need to cut the plug off and hard wire to your harness - Im fine with that.

Exactly what constitutes a towing prep package can vary widely among vehicle makers and models and can depend on whether the additional equipment was factory- or dealer-installed. Sometimes a 'tow-package-equipped' vehicle may still need fuses and/or relays installed to activate the wiring.
There is a good chance the wiring is in place already. You can check under your rear bumper for any signs of wiring for a trailer connector and test them using a circuit tester like # PTW2993, or you can skip that step and simply install a plug-and-play harness like # C55563 from Curt. This 4-pole harness plugs in at the vehicle tail light assemblies and then requires only one additional wire to be run up to the engine compartment where it will connect through the supplied fuse holder to the battery's positive terminal. This kit includes all components required for installation: the harness, wiring, connectors, zip ties and fuse.
I have linked the written instructions for this item as well as two helpful articles that explain how to route the harness's power wire and how to troubleshoot 4-pole installations. A video is linked also.
We offer three different brands of 2-inch Class III hitch receiver for your 2007 Lexus RX350 FWD and all can be seen on the link provided. The most popular is the Curt # 13530. Your vehicle itself may have different weight capacities than the hitches; always go by the lower rating if they differ.
