Kayak Carrier Recommendation for a 2013 Subaru Outback and 3 Kayaks

Question:

I have recently gotten into kayaking. I am trying to find a solution for a 2013 Subaru Outback that would allow me to carry up to 3 kayaks on the roof assuming they do not exceed the weight limit. I have been looking at the stacker solutions from Thule and Yakima but I am not clear on how they would work, and whether or not I would need additional equipment. Note: I already plan to use the straps that hook under the hood/rear hatch to secure the front and back.

The stacker style kayak carriers like the The Stacker, # TH830, by Thule are your best options for carrying 3 or more kayaks on the roof of your 2013 Subaru Outback. To secure the kayaks to this type of carrier, you will stand them up on their sides against the carrier and strap them down. Stacker style carriers use the least amount of space of any kayak carrier. I have attached video reviews of both carriers for you to check out.

Both of these carriers will fit factory style crossbars if your Outback has a factory roof rack. If you do not have the factory crossbars, then you can add crossbars using the Thule WingBar roof rack which consists of part # TH710401 and either # TH711200 or # TH711220.

Keep in mind, the Stacker is rated for up to 4 kayaks. It looks like you are planning on using the Malone T-Style Loops, # MPG308, and the Hood Loops, # TH529, which are excellent accessories that make it much easier to secure the kayak.
