Weight Distribution for a V-Nose Trailer with 850 Pounds Tongue Weight
Question:
I have a 2006 keystone vr1 310bhs needing a hitch. There is not enough room for a regular hitch. Its a v nose trailer. tongue weight is 850 lbs. trailer weight is 9,000 lbs. I have 2011 chevy 2500hd 6.0 with I believe 2.5inch receiver. Any idea if this hitch will work .

You can use weight distribution on a V-nose trailer but you may need alternate hangers if there isn't enough space available on the frame for the regular hangers. But first, when determining tongue weight, also factor in the weight of anything loaded in the towing vehicle behind the rear axle. You will want a system that has a tongue weight capacity range that encompasses the tongue weight plus the weight of cargo behind the rear axle.
A Reese system, # RP66542, has a wide range of 600 to 1,200 pounds tongue weight. And if there isn't enough space on the frame for the regular hangers what you can do is to use the Chain hangers, # RP58305, that bolt to the side of the frame if there is not enough space on the top.
You would need to add a ball to this system using # A-90 for a 2 inch or # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch. This system is designed for a 2 inch hitch. It sounds like you are not 100 percent certain if you have a 2 or 2-1/2 inch hitch. All you need to do is measure the width of the opening, not the overall outside width, just the opening.
If you get 2 inches then the above system will work fine. But if it is 2-1/2 inches then I recommend Reese system # RP66022 and shank # RP54977. You can still use either ball listed above as well as the chain hangers.
If the body of the trailer covers the frame and you can't use the chain hangers then I recommend Curt short arm system # C17332. And if you do have a 2-1/2 inch hitch you would also need reducer sleeve # BX88187.
