Wiring Optronics Camping Travel Trailer Stop, Turn and Tail Light # RVST50

Question:

I just received my replacement 30-92-003 tail lights for my pop up. The old lights have 2 bulbs. One that connects with the black and green wires and one that connects with a single yellow wire. Should I just disregard the yellow one all together? Thank you.

A 3-wire light fixture such as the Bargman Trailer Light # 30-92-003 uses one wire for the ground connection (in this case the white wire) and two wires to deliver signal to the running light bulb (the green wire) and to the stop/turn bulb (the black wire). If your old light used a wired ground like the Optronics light, rather than a mounting stud ground, then one of those wires was ground.

Since there are no guarantees of what color wire carries a particular function on your trailer you will need to test each one with the trailer connected to your tow vehicle while a helper activates the running lights and then the brakes/turn signals. You can use a tester like # PTW2993 on the trailer wires to confirm what function each one carries and connect accordingly. The linked video illustrates how to use the tester.
