Installing Brake Controller on 1997 Toyota 4Runner
Question:
I have a 1997 Toyota 4-Runner LTD with a factory installed towing package. Recently, I upgraded to a 7 pin/flat 4 connector. I want ti install a Electronic Brake controller. My question is: Do I need the ETBC7 installation kit?

Since you already have a 7-way, you won't need the whole # ETBC7 kit. If your 7-way/4-pole is an adapter like # 37185, simply extend the blue wire from the adapter to the output circuit of the brake controller.
You'll need a brake controller like the Curt Triflex # C24VV, the # 5506 install kit and the # C51515 Curt Brake Controller Quick Disconnect harness. If you need the 12-volt accessory power circuit enabled, you'd also need a 40 amp breaker, part # 9510.
If you look at the installation instructions for the # ETBC7, you'll get a good idea of how the whole thing assembles together.
I've linked you to an install video showing the # ETBC7 being used on a Toyota Tacoma. Different vehicle than yours, but the procedure would me similar.
