Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendation for 2014 Honda Accord Sedan

Question:

I have been researching for about 2 weeks on which Hitch and Bike Rack combo I should install on my 2014 Honda Accord Sedan. As for the Hitch, I am leaning toward the Curt product for the appearance. As for the Bike rack, would you recommend the Softride Element, Softride Access Dura, Thule Post Pro, or the Thule Vertex 4? I prefer a rack that can hold 4 bikes although my car can only hold 2. I hope to use the rack for other vehicles that can hold 3-4. They are all about the same price, but want to know whats the best product for the price and which is the most user friendly? I dont mind paying more if the product is superior. Thanks

The Curt 1-1/4-inch Class I hitch you referenced, part # C11681, is one of three light-duty hitches offered for your 2014 Honda Accord Sedan. All share the same capacity of 200-lbs maximum tongue weight (the downward force on the hitch) as well as the limitation to carry no more than 2 bikes. Class I hitches must be used only with Class I-rated bike carriers.

We do offer a range of 1-1/4-inch hitch-mount hanging-style racks with 4-bike capacity and that will fit your Class I hitch; all can be seen on the link provided. For convenience you might consider a rack that includes locks - saving you the hassle and expense of buying separate accessories.

Rack weight is a consideration since the bike rack itself counts toward the weight capacity of the hitch and vehicle to which it is attached. The lighter the rack, the more of the hitch capacity remains available for the weight of your 2 bikes. The Thule Apex 4 weighs under 40-lbs.

If you will be transporting women's, kid's or alternative-design bikes that lack a horizontal top frame tube (as found on a typical man's bike) then you might consider using an adapter bar such as # TH982XT which connects between the seat and handlebar posts to provide a level mounting surface to mate with the carrier's arms. This will help keep such bikes level on the carrier for better ground clearance.
