Recommendations For Fifth Wheel Hitch And Sidewinder On 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Mega Cab
Question:
I am in need of some help from an expert. I own a 2006 dodge ram 2500 mega with a hide a ball gooseneck no clue on the manufacturer. Ball cannot be removed. The camper is an 06 victory lane 36srv. It currently has the ranch hitch by andersen and the king pin is LIPP0719. Issue is that I am lacking a good turn radius and also get excess chucking. I want to get the andersen ultimate hitch system which as I understand will give me an additional 5inch of clearance. With my measurements I still would need another 6inch of clearance for the edge to miss the truck cab. So my search has led me to looking for a replacement king pin. Can you recommend a product that will give me 6inch and also work with the andersen ultimate hitch?

Using a fifth wheel adapter like the Andersen Ultimate Connection, part # AM3200, will give you an additional 5 inches offset in the bed of your 2006 Dodge Ram 2500. Since there are no adapters that can be used with a Sidewinder pin box, I am afraid the Andersen Ultimate is your best bet.
Another option is to remove the gooseneck you currently have installed and replace it with a stationary fifth wheel hitch and rails that can work with a Sidewinder pin box like part # RP61422. Using a Sidewinder will give you 22 inches additional clearance at the rear of your truck. This system features an enclosed air spring in the coupler which helps reduce chucking by up to 60 percent. This is the Sidewinder designed as a replacement for your Lippert 0719 pin box currently on your trailer.
If you decide this is the route you wish to take I recommend the Curt Fifth Wheel Installation Kit, part # C16420-204. This is a no-drill installation and will provide the rails in the bed of your truck and is compatible with several fifth wheel hitches.
For a fifth wheel hitch I recommend the Curt Fifth Wheel, part # C16115. This is a 16,000 lb hitch and features an anti-rattle skid plate to provide a smooth, quiet ride.
