Parts Needed to Install a 7-Way and Brake Controller on a 2014 Honda Ridgeline
Question:
Okay, Ridgeline is supposedly pre-wired for towing. Also, supposedly pre-wired so I can direct-connect a brake controller. I want to be able to tow a trailer with electric brakes, so would need a 7-pin connector. This part is a flat 4-pin connector. So, is there a DIRECT connect adaptor for a 7-pin connector? Can NOT be something I need to hardwire, as that voids the warranty, as this is a BRAND NEW vehicle. What is really strange there are after-market OEM harnesses available for 2013 and earlier Ridgeline with 7-pin connectors.

First, consumers of aftermarket products are protected by the Federal Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act. The Act states that if something breaks on your vehicle and you take it in for warranty repair, the dealer must honor your warranty unless whatever modifications you have added to your vehicle actually caused the problem in question.
Installing a 7-Way is going to require hardwiring. What you could do is ask the dealer to install it and I am sure they would have no problem charging you to do it. That plus the federal act mentioned above should protect the vehicle warranty. It doesn't hurt to ask them any way.
If it turns out that they will be fine with all of this then you would first need to install a 4-Way using # 118400. Then you would need installation kit # ETBC7 and a brake controller. I recommend the P2, # 90885, because it is easy to set up and use and it is reliable. I have included some links that explain the ETBC7 installation for you.
