I checked the owner's manual and on page 182 saw that the powertrain is not designed for towing and that you should never tow a trailer with your 2014 Ford C-Max. I cannot recommend a hitch that would allow you to tow. We do offer trailer hitches that are designed to fit your vehicle but those are intended to be used with accessories like bike carriers or cargo carriers and not intended to be used for towing.
The hitch we offer for your C-Max is the Curt, part # C12092. This is a Class l hitch and has a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening. We also have the EcoHitch # 306-X7200 that has a 2" opening.
If you check your owner's manual or with your dealership, you may find that you can put a roof rack on your C-Max to carry your canoe.
If you decide a roof rack is the way you want to go, and you have a naked roof, I recommend the Rhino Rack system. To order this roof rack you will need 3 part numbers. They are part # RRVA137B-2, part # RRRLKVA, and part # DK357.
For a roof rack canoe carrier I recommend the Explorer Series Rear-Loading, Saddle-Style, part # RR561-WR09.
